First Race. IS-300 Sad.
Allright just picked up my car from Scottsdale Acura on Monday and I have been driving pretty normal since then. I have 270 miles on the car and 255 at the time of the race. My first couple hundred miles of driving I varied the revs never above 5500 and on the highway stayed at 80 hit 90 once. It is strange in the left lane here in Arizona 80-85 is crusing, Shit in New York I'd have no license at that speed. Anyhow to the race. I'm doing about 80 in the left lane behind someone and I see this jerk in an IS weaving in and out. I know I wa sonly at 250 miles but I had to to do it so I moved over to the open lane then went back in to the left the IS followed. We are at about 80 and he is 3 feet away from me. So I drop it to 3rd and light it up and damn this car is quick I get to 120 nicely and he is left about 200-250 ft. away. I didn't take the RPM's over 6000 though and still beat him. Of course I slowed down i'm still on break-in. And of course he flies by oh well. But i'm worried if what I did was bad to the car for break-in. My first car I treated the same way the first 500 miles and worked out well. What do you think. Anthony

Tip: if he didn't match your speed, line up with you, and/or give you any acknowledgement that you were both going for it, you're racing by yourself until the other guy realizes a second later that "oh, this schmoe actually wants to race!"
Besides being dangerous, that is one of the reasons why what some of you call "racing" is remarkably pointless.
BTW, the IS300 is slower in acceleration than the CL-S, especially before getting out of 2nd gear (54mph). But check your figures and understand that it is not that much slower, as some of you keep insisting on telling yourselves in contradiction to established figures, almost as if you needed that difference to compensate for some other deficiency that some of you guys are having problems coming to terms with.

Woo Buddy. I'm not looking for a fight here. I'm just telling you what happen. I'm very happy I just got my car and I didn't want to get into anything for 600 miles but did and was just posting it. The guy was 3 ft behind me and was being a prick I was just making that point. Whether he got a late start or whatever i'm just saying he couldn't catch up he wasn't gaining ground. Maybe he was in D5 the whole time who knows i'm not looking to get flamed here i'm just posting something that happen in my car. And don't make judgements on other things just because of certain things people do. It makes me wonder why you got so bothered by a post.
Sorry. The latest batch of IS300-put-downs have got me a little bothered. I don't try to refute others' opinions or the actions of individual IS300 drivers, but I do go into action when it seems like generalities are being drawn/can be drawn from specific stories. If it was more specific toward that one driver, I wouldn't have responded.

Well, that bottom line is certainly true when it comes to stock-to-stock in a fairly straight line. It becomes rather more complicated in any other situations Let's leave it at that, being that this is an Acura board, okay?

I raced a few folks back at the CL Irvine BBQ meet with my IS300, and most of these folks have quite extensive mods, my IS300 of course, bone stock, and the best that I could do was 1-1.5 car lengths BEHIND the CL-S on the straights every time. However when we started to go through some of the twistie portions east of Irvine, the CL-S became distant memories. Thus, what is the point of all this? I want to trade my ride in for a C32

blah, blah, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...
tip: quit being a wuss. this is an acura board. we know the is300 (and various other marques mentioned from time to time on this forum - please insert the name of the car you'll be assuming the mantle of righteousness for here...) is a capable car (why do you think it's so much fun talking trash about them?!??), we know that "racing" on the street is both pointless and reckless (but in this case, it was apparently also "wreckless"), and most of us are painfully aware of our (alleged) deficiencies. so let the guy have a little fun with it and blow off some steam. golly, you don't have to be such a grandma about this type of thing. it will be all right, I promise...
You know, in the DC area out of 10 IS300's (with the 17's) I would have to say about 8 of them always try to provoke a race on the Beltway. Keep in mind I'm driving my 540i, and I'm like WTF is this guy's problem (I use to race just about everything til my father in law got into an accident with some idiot driving a Civic slammed into him). The point is, I don't race anymore period! But the fact still stands...do these IS300 owners really think they can take on a 540i going 70mph. In the past (racing days, yet still not too long ago), I had a full car (4 people including myself), 3 sets of golf bags, AC cranking a 60 degrees (that's the coldest Bimmers get, at least in my car) and this punk with his IS300 and 17's with tinted windows, and big ASS exhausts...long story short, we punch it at 70mph and by the time I hit 115mph he was like 10 cars or so behind, I slow down and the whips past me. I like the IS300 quite a bit, but it ain't no speedster by any means and I don't know why most DC IS300 owners drive the damn car like it has Turbo or something.
