Exclamation CL Type-S 6 speed - Buying help

Hi Pals, real sorry if this question has been answered already (A quick search for cost and price did not yield the info I need).

After going through several posts in this forum, I decided to get a CL-S 6-speed primarily due to my obsession to have a nice, powerful Manual car that also fits my budget.

After some thorough searching, there are 2 CL-S 6-speeds on sale near where I live. The first is a Silver/Ebony CL-S 6-sp with 21K miles on it which I have already checked out and its in great condition inside and out. The second is a Red/Ebony CL-S 6-sp with 76K miles and I have not seen it yet but looks like its decent from the photographs.
With the extreme depreciation the CLs have suffered, I am a little worried about paying too much. Please could you guys/gals throw some numbers that would guide me.
Thanks

Depends alot on your area, & condition of the car. If it was me I'd get the low milage one cause you still have waranty.
Are these from Acura dealers? If so you will pay a little higher then a private party.
I'd say the 21K miles one around $20-$21K. The other $16-$18K.

Need a bit more info ..
Navi or not and
Private seller/ used car dealer / or Acura Dealer ?
Certified?

If its a private seller, i think ~$19k w/no-navi is fair w/21k miles
If its Acura certifed, maybe $22k

As for the red one, ~$17k from private seller/used car dealer

btw, what are they asking for them?

Thanks for the info. Both these are from Private parties in Colorado.

I was also inclined towards the 21K miles one, and its been garaged and well maintained. But the asking price is 22K and it has 6 months warranty left (did not know that 2003 models got sold as early as May 2002). I had a budget of 20K, so I am

I bought my 03 CL 6SP non-navi silver/ebony with 62,000 back in September from a used car dealer for $15,400 which I thought was a great deal. I drive it daily so far there are no problems whatsoever

Oops just saw those last few questions.

Both are non-Navi and NOT certified and the asking for the Silver 21K miles is 22K and the asking for the Red 76K miles is 16K. Also forgot to mention the Silver-21K miles comes with an extra set of 4 alloy wheels with 16 inch Mich snow tyres.

Just came across another non-Navi Silver CL Type-S 6-sp with 37K miles (certified) from an Acura dealer for $23.5K asking

MSW 6SP ... That is certainly a great deal you got there. Wish I could find one like that too

22K is too high for the silver one considering the warranty is almost up and it doesn't have the navi. 16K isn't terrible, but those are a lot of miles.

the 23.5 is average for a certified acura I see them all the time around my way for that price , that jump it up because it's certified. The Red one has way too many miles on it, if you can get the guy down to your budgeted 20k on the first Silver one take that one. The Red is so sweet on a CL though..

i just bought a used certified CL-S 6sp from a dealer for 21k. it only had 12,000 miles, so i probably wouldn't pay more than 20k for the silver one since it's not certified.

Wow, that's simply an amazing price for a certified with 12K miles. I think I should stick to $20K and see if that works out for the Silver with 21K miles. The bummer is that there are'nt many options.

I have to rule out the certified Silver with 37K miles ($23.5K) since the Acura dealerships don't usually come down more than $1K from my prior experience (plz correct me if I am way wrong here).

Also do the certified cars have 5 yr/ 50K mile warranty instead of the 4 yr/ 40K mile warranty?

I like lower miles, but I heart a SMR/Ebony 6 MT CLS

it was a great deal that i couldn't pass up. they wanted 24k at first, but i was really stubborn and finally they gave in. you should be firm with your offer and i'm sure they will give in too. also, i believe certified cars are 5 years/ 50k miles.

Original warranty is 50k/4 years. Certified warranty adds 1 year and 12k miles, but it does not cover some of the more cosmetic/minor stuff that the original warranty does.

That is another awesome deal !! Considering only around 800 CL-S 6 speeds were made with Navi, they are real hard to come by.

www.nada.com is best if you're looking to buy from a dealer but definitely go certified if you can find one.

Thanks for the pic. Can't wait to be in that cockpit.

These are the suggested rates for the Silver 21K miles.

KBB: 19,825/ 22,905/ 26,150 [Trade-in/ Private/ Dealer]
NADA: 18,775/ 21,700 [Avg Trade-in/ Avg Retail]
Edmunds: 17,251/ 18,297/ 20,109/ 21,962 [Trade-in/ Private/ Dealer/ Certified]

KBB always felt a little too high and it is. Gotta wait till Tue to negotiate for this car. Will checkout the Certified Silver 37K at the Acura dealership today.

Do yourself a favor and Contact Smitty and see if he still has his. I think he's selling his SSM CL-S6. You won't find a cleaner car around.

That's absolutly true. The car has almost no miles on it. It looks BETTER than brand new. He's the most anal person about their cars that I know of.

he still has it, i was over his place earlier today, if you need his contact info, let me know. Or i can just call him for you. The car is located in Western PA and is pretty spotless. It no longer has a spoiler though (we swapped trunks last weekend). He's still sellin his supercharger as well. pm me if you want to get ahold of him. He's no longer on this forum (at least that's what he told me last weekend when he put the rotora bbk on my car).

Don't rush into any car purchase because alot of these cars will be coming off lease with from 03'(36 months) with low miles(under 50k). I would find a reputable dealer that has the service history on the car. Don't be afraid to strut into a dealership and negotiate because you can get a better price from a motivated salesman than a private party that thinks his car is worth more than it actually is. Don't get confused with the "certified" vehicle. All they do is run down a check list and and give you a short warrenty. I would buy a comprehensive extended warrenty to cover all the electronics in the car esp. if you are considering a navi. I work for a honda dealership in Chicago that also has an Acura store. I bought my 03' 3.5 with 55k non type S AT for around 15K with my 60month/60k warrenty for around 15K++ so there are good deals out there. If you are trying to stay under 20K, why not drop the type-S six speed??? Mine has tiptronic and is definately fast enough esp. with my V2 intake. Just a suggestion. You can PM me before you make a purchase if you want my opinion.

Myself being in Colorado, it would be hard for me to check the car out or try to get it out here. I am still looking to see if I can get a good one around here. Thanks.

Thank you for all the advice. Yeah, I'll look around enough before making a purchase. I am not particular about the certification. It would be great to have Navi, but have'nt seen one on sale with that, around here.
About 6-speed, call me crazy but that is something I gotta have. I just enjoy driving Manual cars so much. The two cars I've had till now were both manual.

no problem...i figured you'd prolly be more interested in something local, but in case anyone else is interested (or if you feel like taking a trip to PA), just figured i'd let ya'll know that i can get ahold of him if you want his car. Good luck though, i'm sure you'll be able to find one.

As far as the 6-speed thing, definitely look for one and don't settle for an auto. my last car was an auto and everytime i drove it, i wished it was a stick.

spat, I didn't realize you were in CO! What's up!

Look, man.. The resale on a 6spd in CO is NOT BAD at all! They are rare cars and certain people in CO will pay you for it. Don't get robbed at a dealer though. They want all the money for them because they know what they have their hands on and they know the right person will pay. Example: My ex bought a certified 6spd the dealer wanted $28,9 for! It was an outrage! But after talking to them, I got them down to like $21k or something. I don't remember the exact figure.

Don't wory about resale in CO. It's not a problem here. It just may take longer to resell it 'cause you'll have to wait for the right person.

I saw a SSM 6spd in Denver for sale at www.autotrader.com for a decent starting price. Looked like a nice car.

Chris, good to know about the resale value. That's what I was really worried about. From what I've learnt, I can tell the CLs are great cars and worth the money. Its just that I wanted to be sure if I ever need to sell it, I would'nt loose too much money. The one for sale in Denver is most probably the Silver 21K miles, I have been talking about.
