CL Snatched

I woke up yesterday morning and went to the window to look at my baby and it was gone!! I had been procrastinating about which alarm to buy and what to put on the car and thought to myself "that's what you get, idiot"

Anyway, I called the precinct only to find out it was towed by the Marshall. Towed?....I just got the thing Its a long story but there were some unpaid parking tickets on another car (ex-wife=bi$#@!) and in NY they can take any car you own if the tiks are over $230.

My question is...is it that easy to snatch a CL?....I mean...I didn't even hear the factory alarm go off. I'm done wasting time, I'm going out this weekend to have a Clifford or Viper 2way put on the CL6. Is it worth it to turn on the ON Star tracking?

And as an aside...is there anything I should be worried about since my car was towed...suspension,brakes,etc?

Well hopefully they didn't tow it with the front end driving the wheels, that severely mess things up. The CL does not have a shock sensor installed, so you can tow it, break it's windows, kick it, and the arm will not go off unless you open the door, hood, or trunk.

I have this setup in my car: Python 680XP with remote 2-way, Lo-Jack, and Onstar Enabled. Can never have too much security.

My boy got his NEW WRX towed about a month ago. The tow company towed it wrong and it FUCKED his transmission.

He had to pay for it OUT OF POCKET. He never had proof that the tow company did it apparently. Spineless of him I guess, he shelled out $4500 for a new one. !

I just do not think a shock sensor is enough. I have been debating on what to install...either a shock sensor, or a whole new alarm. Leaning towards the new alarm...

Believe me if I would have known, they would have been paid. The parasite had 6 tickets and didn't tell me. I don't want to rant but she was using an expired reg sticker and her boyfriend's old plates. They apparently ticketed me cause my name was on the sticker and him for the plates. They towed his SC430 too.
All of this over a piece of *$#& neon. She didn't even offer anything resembling an apology. I'm just glad the car is undamaged (as far as I can tell) and nothing was stolen.

Oh I got it back that same day. I thought I mentioned that. It was a bit of a runaround but I just ate the fine and picked it up. I was pissed off but I simply had to get my car back, bottom line. I'm sure these cats at the impound were salivating when they saw it come in...

The alarm will go off if you force the trunk open, or press it from the inside. You can only use your key fob with the alarm on.

I saw a show on repo-men. They had these wheel jacks that they just put under your tire. It pinches 2 rollers together and has casters underneath. Once there is one of those under each wheel they can pull it up on a flat bed, tow it, push it or whatever. Looked pretty easy.

absolutely Chad, I actually work with my friend sometimes for his dad who owns a reposession business. They get 300-400 cars a month, and I've never seen him leave a car. YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED what they do to get a car. Just dont ever buy a repo'd car. I've seen him pick a RWD car up by the front tires if the need be, and drag that fucker down the street til he can turn it around and load it up. Or I've seen the car dragged sideways across their LAWN cause a car was blocking it in ..

If the cars facing the right way in the driveway, he can back up to it and have it hooked and driven away in 20 seconds. The winch controls are in the truck, dont even have to get out. Doubt you'd even hear the alarm.

I always wondered, what happens if your E-Brake is on tight and they tow a car like ours from the front?
If they’re going like 20-miles to the yard at speed, wouldn’t that burn up the rear calipers?

I was once in NYC sitting at a window of a restaurant and saw a tow truck round a corner towing an old RWD Caddy from the rear.
The steering wheel lock must have broken and the front wheels cranked to one side.
The car veered to the side and sideswiped about 5 cars parked on the side of the road and peeled the front bumper right off the Caddy.
The tow truck never even stopped !!!

I guess if they want to get your car they'll do whatever they have to. After closer inspection I did find some minor damage. Apparently they used a "slim jim" to unlock the door. There is a small dent on the metal trim where the right door meets the roof.
They ripped a whole straight through the rubber seal. When I think about it the damage cold have been a lot worse.Clearly they knew what they were doing.

I feel violated :thief: I just can't get over how freakin easy it is to open the door! What was acura thinking when they designed our door locks. "I got it! Let's make a hot sports coupe and then make it easy to steal!"

Hey wait a sec....why does the :thief: smilie have to be brown-skinned?

If I remember correctly it's based off of a "brown" (as you put it) picture a member took as a spoof.

Same as this smiley

Oh, and FWIW.... any car can be easy to steal....

Unless you're buying a $60k+ car, all of the average priced cars ($28k - $32k) have similar anti-theft systems and they're all pretty basic.

i got the Clifford Matrix alarm. $400 bucks installed at Best Buy.
I like it over the shock sensor because it goes one step further by notifying you if someone is messing with your car or if some asshole opens his door and dents you while you're at the supermarket. It pages your remote, so If you're in a gym, or at the movies and you cant hear the alarm go off, your lcd pager will beep and then you can run out there and kick their ass.

Normally in that case my friend would drag it down to the nearest parking lot, then use lockout tools to get inside the car and release the Ebrake.

Sometimes the locking of the wheel works to your advantage because it'll keep the car straight when towing, but its a disadvantage when they aren't locked straight.

bkDonDada .. I watch him break in all sorts of cars. its not just the CL. you'd be surprised the tools they make specifically FOR breaking in cars. a personal favorite is the air pillow you slip in between the door jam and then inflate to spread the door open enough to get to the lock with the long metal thing
