CL-S6 vs. New Si and GSR

I just raced a new Civic Si coupe, sounded like he had an intake. I had 3 passengers + 150lbs of luggage and I have I/H/E. We ran from 60-120 and I barely pulled a car length or 2 on him. We tried to line up a 2nd time but he jumped on me a few seconds early, but my CEL started flashing, so I backed off.

Then I ran a fully modded GSR and pulled 3 car lengths on him to 120.

God I had no idea weight made this big of a difference, they both had no passengers.

Does this sound right? I am still throwing that damn P0172 code. Hopefully I get it figured out this week. I have been told the CEL flashing is due to loss of traction, which the computer thinks is misfiring, but how can this be true at freeway speeds.

You're missfiring. 1-2 lengthes on him is pretty impressive if you had 3 passengers and 150lbs of luggage, should have ran him with nothing in your car.

Must be my plugs I have yet to pull the back plugs, I think that was New Image's problem, he was misfiring as well. Any tips to reaching them?

Never changed them actually so I wouldnt know. You could use a small mirror and lots of patience helps.

Yeah that sounds right, and yes weight really does make this much of a difference. All of my buddies that go to the track every weekend all say that every 100 lbs. will drop you by about .1 seconds in the quarter. So you can see how a couple people could mean a 1/2 a second lower and closer to a Civic Si's performance, etc.

+1

Weight plays a huge roll. Plus up top is where that SI shines. If it had been just you in the car you would have pulled more.

I just wish he could see thru my limo tint, he probably thinks he gave me a good run for my money.

I have been really lagging on the install of the S/C. I should be getting it in within a couple weeks.

No doubt, I was close to buying an RSX-S, but it felt like driving a Geo Metro in the low end, no torque and too much of a kiddy car for me.

umm.. rsx-s has a k20 in there

as well, with approx. 3x150lbs passengers and 1x150lb luggage, that's 600lbs on top of what you would be at. so if you calculate lb/hp

gsr/si

2650/200=13.25

cl
4050/290=14.00

The new SI I thought weighs 2886lbs
2886/200 = 14.43
TQ/WT =20.3

CL even at 4000lbs

4000/232TQ=17.2

I know an RSX-S has a K20, but they have a pretty shitty low end, but then of course as you rev higher 6000+ it actually pulls pretty strong. Maybe I shouldn't have test driven them after my torque monster SRT-4.

Get new plugs for sure. That should cure your problem. Which plugs are you thinking of using? I hear the denso irridium or NGK are the best.

Well I already have Iridium IXs that I haven't put in yet. So hopefully today, those back plugs are just a PITA for me. I checked the front ones yesterday, they seem fine just a little ash on them, not black or anything.

Ty doesn't seem to be returning my messages, I left him a couple. Hopefully, I can just fix the problem myself, I am guessing its the plugs or coils. My sensors are all fine, I am not throwing a code for any of them, just a bank 1 rich code. Any other suggestions of what to check out for a P0172 code and misfiring?

LOL yeah a turbo 4 banger feels a bit stronger than just a 4 banger, even a good one like a K series. Hell, one of my friends has an MT turbo S beetle and that even feels like it pulls pretty strong. Of course, I had to race her to confirm how hard it actually did pull...

^ the rear bank is simple as long as you remove the IMRC first (2 bolts). After that, just lay across your engine and reach down. You can also remove the strut brace for xtra room, but shouldn't be necessary.

That's funny because after driving an RSX-S and a new Si back to back I felt like the RSX-S felt way stronger. My brother has an RSX-S and even before he boosted it he used to pull on the new Si's pretty good.

My girl has an 05 RSX-S 6 speed and to me it does not compare to the CL-S 6MT
