CL-S VS 96 Maxima SE

A friend of mine has a maxima and looks at the maxmia.org page. He told me that one of the guys wants to race me in his 96 SE. He has a CAI, some Y pipe thing, cat back, and its an auto. Do you think I can take him? I sorta think so but I don't know the times on them. I spank my friends 92 SE pretty bad and his is a 5 sp and has a short ram intake. I only have a CAI.

If its an auto, YES! If its a 5spd, I think so too but not sure.... but auto, absoluly! 0-60 for auto is like 7.8-8.1 stock.... 5spd are 6.7 - 7.1 stock.

i have a 97 se auto with a cai down pipe "y" pipe and cat back the only power mod i dont have and is on the way is the s/c even though 95-96 max's are a lil faster than the 97-99 "cause of emissions" u can beat him in every aspect, now if he has the s/c or on th bottle we have no chance but u should beat him easy.

Given a perfect scenario of test conditions, You will win, but it may be close. The Y pipe is their equivalent of a header.

Don't even give him a chance! Dr. Xenon says; VSA off, shift manually 1st to 2nd then D3 and hold till 7 o'clock.
That should do the trick on that Max.

BTW if it does not werk, don't call me in the morning.
Good luck man!!

Thanks. I think I can take him as well but I wanted to see what everyone here thought. I think They might try to video tape it so if they do I will try to post it here. Now the problem is trying to find somewhere we can race without the problem of the law dogs!

Industrial park areas on early Sunday mornings seem to be the best time. I used to
video my old GSR near an old steel factory
that had a nice long stretch of even roadway.

You have to go out and explore some areas
at differnet times to get a good idea of much it is patrolled by our finest uniformed fellas.

Hey NOLACLS,

I've seen you and your friend race on Bernam Hwy down in the dirty south, and I wouldn't call that a spanking.

Is that a fact. I call 2 or 3 car lengths a spanking...especially when my friend talks as much crap as he does!

2 or 3 carlengths? Oh, so I guess you were winning by so much that you had time to get out and measure, right? It would have been more like a 1/2 carlength if that maxima wouldn't have peeled out for 3 straight seconds before hauling off.

Well Jeff......I mean Mpower4eva If my friend Jeff Knew how to drive than that wouldn't have been an issue. As far as how bad I beat you..umm I mean him is just a guess..Its hard to see out the rearview mirror when you...he is that far away. So if he didn't peal out then I guess it would have only been 2 car lengths instead of possibly 3!

Nola, I had a 96 SE before my CL-S. With a CAI and a Y-Pipe, it WILL be close (as previously mentioned they are faster than the 97-99's). You can definitely edge him, but it won't be a walk in the park. Just hope he doesn't have anything else under the hood....

Well, let's try it again with my tires at 22 psi. I could maybe keep up in 1st if I didn't peel out with those crappy urethane-like tires I have. BTW, someone seems a little defensive about that race, what is that about?

Depends on the rims, but they'll probably add some to his time. Good luck!

17x8 konings are like pulling around bricks y pipe+cai+catback= 20-30 h.p at the crank, maximas have been dynoed with these mods on maxima.org at about 155hp at the wheels (5 speed) a lil less for autos, at the wheels with a s/c about 225-235 at the heels give or take. i know these sound a lil low but they are true.

if its an auto and he doesn't have any other mods you should definitely take him. not by a lot but you will beat him(considering traction is pretty much equal).

nolacls, i know those numbers seem low but ski max a guy in the maxima.org dynoed his car with a s/c and he got 230hp at the wheels and buy the way with mods i mentioned b4 its 155-165 at the wheels with an auto and 165 -175 with a 5 speed, these numbers are right on. honestly against your cl you should take him with out a problem.

Actually Southpaw, with a car having 190 stock HP at the flywheel, 175 seems kind of high to be at the wheels. I know this is the highest of the range you posted, but I would love to have 175 WHP. :p

they seem high but u have to remember every car is diff, also the numbers i posted were a maxima with a cai,y pipe, and cat back. with those mods the max can make 210-215 hp at the crank.
