CL-S Road Trip impressions

After 1200 miles going to NYC from Fl, I can now give my impressions about the CL-S on such a long trip.

The bad:
1- I hate the headrests! Not being able to tilt them down was horriable! I had to stuff a towel behind my neck to get a little comfortable.

2- Not being able to switch from memory 1, to 2 while in drive is a pain! I adjusted the seat so I was comfortable when driving on striaght roads with the cruise at 80 at 2am with no traffic. Then I wanted to switch to position 1 when there was traffic or had to pay a toll etc. I couldn't. What a stupid design!

3- I could not find a seating position where sitting in stop & go traffice was comfortable for my right foot. My ankle was killling me from gas-break-gas-break for 45 minutes. I never had that happen in any other car, Even rentals.

4- I get to do it all over again next weekend driving back to South Fl

The good:
1- The seats are great. My butt didn't hurt, or my back.

2- The steering is great along with the overall feel of the car.

3- The engine is smooth, & the tranny(mine at least) was smooth & performed great.

4- The heater heated up the car really quick. Most cars I have been in took forever to blow out hot air when cold.

5- I get to do it all over agian next weekend driving back to South FL.

I also broke it in good. I'm at 2100 miles now. I also tested the upper limits a little. I did a few 130-140mph runs on the way up.

Overall impressions:
For a road trip car is it's ok, but I have been in better cars
The CL-S is more suited to other duties

I think you have to see the logic about the seats here. I'm sure Acura figured that 2 different people would be using the 1 and 2 settings. Let me tell you, if hitting #2 worked while driving, I'd be FUCKED. This is my girlfriend's setting and my knees would be in my mouth if I accidentally hit it while driving. This is the same logic behind the seat-forward feature not working when the car is in drive....someone getting into the back could really get hurt if the driver slipped off the brake and started rolling forward. As for the headrests....never really noticed a problem. Are you really tall? I'm 6'2" and I've never been uncomfortable in stop & go traffic. Maybe the car is so perfect that you just had to bring up this stuff, eh? For the record, I've driven from Boston to Phoenix TWICE in an '85 Subaru Brat 4 Speed...let me tell you, things could be worse!!!

If that’s all the complaints you have after such a long trip I think you have to admit Acura did a great job.

Shawn S.

PS....I did a Pennsylvania to Florida & back trip in late October and had a great time on the road.
It was like 2,400 miles total.

Make sense about the memory seats. Do you guys have problem seeing while backing up? When I test drive one I can't really judge how much room I have.

BTW, you need to use heating in Florida? Isn't it in the mid 60's?

I needed the heat in the states after FL. It was like 30-40 degrees.

I took a 2 day 1100+ mile road trip in May and didn't have one complaint. The car performed flawlessly and I was a comfortable the entire way.

To be honest, I see his point about the seat position, but the controls still work, and it's better that you do it manually when your driving...the mirrors as well as the seat changes...could be a freakin nightmare waiting to happen.

As it is, I CAN'T WAIT to do the Tulsa, OK to Jacksonville, FL drive on the 12th of Jan!

This is where the spoiler comes in handy. I couldn't tell where the back of my car was before I got it.

I took my ride to Amarillo and back last week (7 hours each way from Austin) and I have to concede with the head rest comment. I actually have two small pillows in my back seat (decoration purposes) that I will put between my head and the head rest on long trips.

The navigation system is wonderful on long trips, especially if you don't know where your going and especially if you have the dvd conversion.

I found that I really can't watch the movies while driving, but my gf can. When she falls asleep the movies do "keep me company" though.

these are NOT head rests. They are Restraints, and they ain't made to rest on, that is potentially dangerous(fallin asleep)

!again, mucho dangerous.

I didn't figure it out. I got about 340-360 miles on a full tank at about 70-80mph with & without the ac/heat.
