CL-S Auto On Steriods? Dyno Today 11-2!
I started a thread on AccordV6 about a friend of mine, Tool462 who has a supercharged Accord and how he couldn't take the
CL-S in a race. Always close but the CL always a hair quicker.
Poeple also doubted the fact that I ran 14.6 with a stock CL-S Auto, which I understand.
His car dynoed at 212.1 whp w/176#'s torque, (Average SAE)).
If I'm taking him, We thought I must have an unusually fast stock CL.
So, today we had it dynoed at the same shop to find out exactly what was going on and I pulled a an average of 209.1 whp w/189.3#'s torque. My curves are also well above his in all areas up until peak at about 6,500, where his whp bumps up a hair.
Has anyone else seen stock auto dyno's this high and how unusual is it? It was 50% on the nose with low humidity, so that didn't hurt.
My scanner isn't working tonight so I can't post the dyno's now, but I will post two dyno's tommorrow, one showing my curves and another with the superchargered Accord on top of mine.
I am going to mod one step at a time but I will spend the $80.00 after each one to see exactly what these mods are doing, which people don't do enough of in my opinion. Let's see some more stock dyno's and give me some feedback on these numbers.

The numbers are close to what Astroboys '02 stock TLS pulled. However, his trq is a bit higher. But if you look at what mike's trq number is you are about 10whp and 7ftlbs above what most stock cls are running. SEems like you and nitrotiger have the magic pixy dust

I'm hoping I can pull over 250 with the comptech header, icebox and UR crank pulley.
My Accord buddy isn't so happy right now and he's ready to go buy nitrous. With his $2,500.00 Volk's, his still looks better!

Happy CL-S Pilot
CLS- Auto Dyno should average 200 WHP and 175 Wlbft.
Congrats you got a CLS with a FREE headers... ehmmm at least a FREE CAI....
Did you dyno with stock tires/rims?

Yes, stock rims and tires and the pressure was at 35 psi.
I forgot to mention it's a pimp daddy gold w/navi CL-S Auto.
I hope Siggy see's this.

I'm not discrediting the runs, but I've heard that dynojets can vary from unit to unit. It's good for comparison when you do mods and use the same dyno.
I guess the try test is the timeslips, but then that depends on weather as well. Oh well....
Still, cool numbers for the car!
Gives ya bragging rights!

John TypeS ran his dyno through the same shop and we took a peek at his dyno with headers and intake and pully I believe and he pulled a 231 I want to say.
But John didn't dyno his car stock to my knowledge, so we don't know what he started with.
I may end up with alot more after the same mods.
The point here is that anyone who can afford to mod can afford to dyno. We need to see more stock dyno's and more dyno's after each mod for comparison purposes.
Acura has sold 10's of thousands of the CL and we represent a tiny percentage here with very few stock dyno's, so who's to say that there aren't many more CL's out there dynoing over 200 stock.
By the way, thanks for the kudos guys!

Nevermind on John's stock dyno as I now see it above.
His torque is unusually high, but I'm sure it's possible with my torque not being far behind.

maybe it was cooler where he is or good oil? or well broken in car? maybe better polished insides on his than on the average? or just the fact that out of 10 cars coming off a production line 2 will be faster than others, 5 will be average, and about 3 will be a bit slower (just stats that some BMW engineer told me, not sure how realistically true it is)... natural for this to happen I tihnk... considering not everyone dynos their car we could see more of this if they were all DYNO'd...

If you look at the dynos that were done in high temps, they just don't look that great.
I looked up the temps for Chicago on the Nov. 2nd, 2002 and got this:
(Link: http://www.wunderground.com/history/...lyHistory.html)
Mean Temperature 39.2 °F / 4.0 °C
Max Temperature 48.2 °F / 9.0 °C
Min Temperature 30.2 °F / -1.0 °C
Pressure 30.1 “ (that’s ideal)
And you did mention the low humidity (the dew point conversion comes up to around 50%)
You have now described a recipe for the perfect CLS dyno.
If the dyno operator had a set of "proper" fans running and it was anywhere near 30-50 degrees near the car, you could easily gain the power from increased timing. The SAE correction will NOT compensate for the air temperature inside the engine and will not compensate for the change in advance that you will get in cold weather.
Example: An I/H/E auto 3.2 CLS will be lucky to be in the mid 15s with 90-degrees out. In 40-degree temps, a couple of people here were running around 14.4 that normally are up in the 15.x second region. (I am assuming that the cars with the 15-second run at 90-degrees F have no pulleys, lighter wheels, and/or other mods).
All cars like cold air, but the CLS seems to be VERY sensitive to changes in temperature and I have not been able to account for the power difference due to the increase in air density (from low temps).

Dyno shop differences -- you decide:
http://disc.cba.uh.edu/~klee/Dyno/dyno.htm
Alamo Autosports
540i dynoed on 7/11/98 256.8 hp and 271.5 lb-ft torque
Motorsport Technologies
540i dynoed on 7/13/98 265.3 hp and 288.8 lb-ft torque
Interesting how just going to a different dyno shop a few days later makes for such a difference in max output and graph consistency and "shape"....

Eric offers some good analysis on the temps and humidity which I agree with, as it was a great day for a dyno but it still dynoed higher than a fully modded Accord with CLs cams and the Supercharger. That didn't please my friend and our races don't either as I always win slightly!
One large fan was used blowing at the car which is standard there.
And Sig my mods are not far away and hopefully I can do high 13's with just headers, icebox and UR crank pulley.
