CL Newbie, Timing Belt ?'s
Hey guys I just recently purchased a 2003 CL Type S with the 6-speed. The car did come with service records and the former owner had the timing belt serviced(belt, tensioner, water pump etc) at 136,000 miles. The car now has around 186,000 miles on it and I have read conflicting intervals for servicing the CL. I've heard every 60,000 miles but I've also heard people say that Acura says every 7 years or every 107,000 miles. I was hoping you guys could clarify. That being said I know that the former owner had it done for around $350 in labor bringing the parts in himself. Is that the best way to go? What are some of the prices that you guys have paid and what seems reasonable? Thanks.

You can never go wrong with procuring parts yourself and having them (Cert. Acura dealer) do the install for you; but they'll more than likely rape you on labor... I used to go that route until I started modding the car... Now it's one shop, one guy, amazing work! He's the only one I allow under the hood

Thanks, so what mileage increment do you service your timing belt. I'm trying to figure out if doing mine at 196,000(60k miles since previous owner) is premature. I figure I'm looking at around $600 to do the belt. Is that in line with what you've paid? Thanks for the warm welcome!

here's a sponsored vendor who offers a good timing belt deal to forum members:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/timing-belt-special-still-going-strong-%40-%24299-shipped-821766/
great service, order arrived very fast.
Considering you have had it changed only 60k miles ago, you are probably safe for another 40k or more, but then it starts getting risky. For peace of mind/insurance, you can always do it a little early.

Werd. So many people that forget that it's also 7 years. Know plenty of people that think it's cool that they haven't bothered to do it because they have under 105k miles on their car. Time will age and crack a belt worse than high use.
Remember that the CL-S is an interference engine so if that timing belt happens to snap, you're looking messing everything up and most likely having to replace the engine. it's not worth risking.
Friend has a 2000 SVT Contour with 25k miles. Keep telling him to do the timing belt. It's been sitting a lot to only have 25k miles on it in 13 years. Good chance the belt and many of the seals can get dry rot sitting a lot. Time to replace them before they become an issue.

Age is FAR worse on the rubber belts than mileage. If you are closing in on the 7 year mark then i would start to look into it. If not go closer to the 100k or so mark on it.
