CL Handles Emergency Manuever

I'm on my way to work in the rain. The roads are slick and the traffic is lighter than usual because of the holiday (at least for some folks). Speed limit is 45 and I'm doing between 45-50.

An early 80's 280ZX does an illegal u-turn approximately 100-150 ft (could have been closer) in front of me and realizes part way through that they've cut it short. He guns it halfway through the turn, but as you might have guessed, spins out (180) and is now sitting right accross my lane. I instinctively hit my brakes (momentarily) and realize I'm going to T-Bone him, the car is still under control (love those ABS) when I crank the wheel to the right. The rear end tries to lose a grip, but the traction control light comes on momentarily and helps me regain control. I turn back left because I'm now in the right lane looking at a ditch. There's a slight slide and then I regain control.

I get to the next light and the losers who spun out, roll up going kind of slow. They're picking their hair and laughing. I'm kind of worked up and thinking if I had been in my wifes SUV I would have seriously hurt or killed them because I would not have tried such a manuever on her car because it would have flipped and would have rammed them or even rolled over the top of their car. ****ing punks don't know how lucky they were.

I do have to say, the CL-S handled very nicely. Thanks for letting me vent.

I feel you on that close call.. I experienced the VSA system only 3 weeks after getting my car..
We were hit with a snow storm and icey rain so it made street conditions hazardous... The car
reacts very well under loss of controlll situations... Never experienced this with other vehicles..
Surprisingly the stability system worked better then that of the '01 Cadillace Deville DTS that I was sporting before I got this Cl... Mad Kudos to Acura for that one... Very helpful for inclement weather
conditions... I haven't tested the breaks in extreme conditions tho... The front roll is kind of a bummer.
Going to get breaks checked out tomorrow...

Those punks probably were high or on drugs. I HATE when someone screwes up and does not admit to their mistake(or tries to act like it never happened)

I bet they'll sing a different tune when one of their friends is KILLED in a car accident.

Beware of Nissan 200 series. Look at my sig. The damage was caused by some woman kung fu'ing her door open into the street and I hit it. Her fault obviously, but she was in a 200sx. I see alot of 80's with kids in them. I think older sports cars that people want to get rid of tend to be in high school kids' price range. When I sell the CL-S in ten years chances are it'll be to some kid. Like giving a loaded gun to a madman. Arg.

One of the very reasons I chose this car was cause of its saftey features, VSA,Traction control, side airbags....

Be careful about teenage drivers in any car. They will change your life...permanently.

Here we go again.

AWESOME ABS, on my way home from work, crazy lady stopped in center lane of interstate adjacent to the exit lane, I approach doing 55mph wondering WTF she is doing, she mashes gas shifts rudder headed for the exit right in front of me, mash on the ABS and reel in my Type-S she is smiling and waving thanx for letting her in. Any other car I believe I would have killed her.

Another safety feature we forget is weight. You take a 3,500lb car and ram it into a 1,600lb car, who do you think will survive? Ask any rescue worker. Why do you think The Crown Vic/Grand Marquis have such good grash test ratings? They are massive.

The CLS handles very well under evasive maneuvers. Someone on the turnpike had a front tire blowout, spun 180 in front of me and I was able to avoid without losing control.
