CL Driver No More
CL Driver No More
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to write that I have ended my love affair with my 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type-S, black/black, 6 speed stick.
I really liked my car, and I loved the 6-speed stick, but I was tired of sitting so close to the steering wheel. Maybe it was just me, but when I set my seat position, I put my foot on the clutch all the way down, and then moved my seat as far back as I could go and still push the clutch in. For me, it just was not far enough. I have been driving so much lately, I found myself really wanting to stretch out and drive in a more relaxed position. I just couldnt do this in my CL.
I did test drive the new TL Type-S, hoping that this would be the car for me. Unfortunately, I really did not find myself liking it. I test drove an automatic, and though I was comfortable in the seat, I was not impressed by the engine. There was too much of a delay when I stepped on the gas. The autostick was ok, but not great (it is possible I was too spoiled by driving a stick for so long). But what made me really concerned was the number or rattles coming from the dash on such a new car. My CL had rattles too (it also had stiff suspension), but I would think the salesman would have known better than to take out a rattled TL Type-S.
Anyway, I just was not "feeling" the TL. I ended up getting a 2007 Infiniti G35 Sport sedan, black interior, silver exterior (they call it Liquid Platinum). I drove that car for a minute and knew it was what I was looking for. The power was more responsive, I liked the interior better, and I just felt it was more to my liking. And for the first time in 4 years, I have sitting really far back in my seat, just the way I like it.
I miss my CL, I really do. That was a great car, and I enjoyed every minute of driving it. Four years after buying it, I still had moments of "oh my god, did the car really just do that" when I would get on a freeway on-ramp late at night and reach 100 mph before I could even blink. And I will still recommend Acuras to my friends who want a good car. But unfortunately, I just didnt like the TL Type-S even though I really wanted to.
Well, I will still check out acurazine for the latest news and gossip about any future CLs. I would certainly like to drive a sports coupe in the future. Plus, I just like talking about cars.
So for now, thanks to everyone on this website who helped me pick out tires, diagnose problems, and shoot the breeze about our CLs.

Good luck Herschel, dont' be a stranger... lots of ex-acura owners have moved over to the off-topic part of the site.. Cartalk and Automotive News are 2 of my favorite forums here (well, after this forum)...
I hear ya about stretching out. I'm 6'3" and my CL is just barely roomy enough for me, but with the auto it might be better than the 6speed. Anyway, good luck with the G35S!

there has got to be only a handful of OG CL owners up in here. i don't mean people like me. i'm referring to those here since 2003 or before.

I will come back to stick later in life, and would consider Acura again if they ever make a new CL or a comparable coupe.
