Is the CL a big part of your life?

Just out of curiosity - and partially because I want to make sure Im not crazy - How often/how much do you think about your car?

I find myself bored at work, always looking for little (and big) things to buy for my car. And its getting to a point where I am trying to save cash and now that I have a little built up....I want to go buy something for the CL-s, when I know I should save it for a "house fund" or something....Oh well....Anyone else?

Get a SC! How much have you saved? Is it enough to buy a house right now or put down for one? IF it isn't, why not treat yourself. Sure the house is important. I think about my ride all the time but I know I'm still far from getting a house so I might as well enjoy now. I'm sure when you become a homeowner, all you're gonna be thinking about is your house and what you can do to it. I think about owning a house one day and all the crap I'll do to make it nice. Cars and houses go hand in hand, it's a big investment.

well, i used to feel that way in the first 6 months of owning the car.....i wanted to get everything.....now its like 8 and i really dont give a shit anymore..its a waste of time n money.....ive already done what i needed to do and i think i will stop here....plus, after my cousin hit my car last month, i am feeling more like ITS NOT WORTH THE MONEY n time to fix up cars....theres a shitload of stress involved u kno....gotta worry bout money, quality of job/installation, warranty, relaibility of mod, everyday driving conditions(esp. w/19s), people fukin wit ur modded car, people stealing shit from ur modded car, location of where u park....and i can go on like this FOREVER....to me, the stress dont seem worth it....sure, it looks tight and everyone looks, but after u pass them by, who gives a fylin fuc anymore...u know what i mean?

I mean, cars depreciate and when dealing with everyday driving and road conditions, their value will go straight to shit even more....the best thing to do is to buy a car that is almost or near PERFECT off the bat....that way u wont end up wastin xtra money modding it.....It basically comes down to this....i believe people mod their cars becasue there is some aspect/s they do not like about their cars...they want to improve upon it and this leads to more hassles and issues and worries....if u get sumthin nice, u wont have these issues...but many of us have constraints on our budgets, so we look towards mods to satisfy or fill those gaps...

IMHO, i feel there is no need to think so much about cars...they are just pieces of transportation and nothing more....i know how u feel bro, and ive been there....u just gotta get over it...a car is just a car....take car of it and it will treat u good,....just save ur money for the next bigger and better beast =)

true, not worth the money, but if you have it and it makes you happy then go for it. But I would say don't let it affect the way you live. Don't miss out on other things in life being obsessed with a car. Don't miss going on vacations, buying a house, regular nights out drinking and things like that.

Theres NO WAY IN HELL YOUR CAR, or even mine, or even an exotic sports car, can be an INVESTMENT!!! (maybe a formula 1 car...but that is more like capital and equipment since those people use those cars for a living and business)

they depreciate like a muther....i dont care how many mods u puton it...even an SC....whenu sell it, u wont get a penny over what u paid for...and if u do, that fool is outright ignorant or has too much $$...a house YES (more of a liability in some cases)

Mr Big, I don't think he meant "investment" as in the literal sense (at least I hope not). I figured he meant a big purchase and investment in happiness (ok that last one might be a stretch).

I think about my car more than I should and can relate to all the answers posted thus far. I know they are a waste of money but like typeR, I want more power. Like mr Big, I am not as enthused about the car as I was when I first got it. I now have a small scratch here and there, had an accident not too long ago, and have gotten used to the speed. I still love the car and want to mod it but I am trying to save up for a wedding and house. When I do have extra money I through it into the car. Shit, if I had the money the car would be lowered with 18x7 OZs, h/i/e/p and probably a custom turbo or the CT SC.....that or I'd be waiting for my M5/E55!

you guys wax your cars with your jizz?? i hear its better than zaino!!

seriously, when i had the CL-S i was the same way, it was pathetic....racking up credit debt for all the mods, goind racing, geting speeding/racing tickets, etc

the whole scene is a bad idea....financially and for safety reasons as well. now that i dont ahve the CL-S anymore, i drive 100 times more safe, and i spend about 10% of the money on mods for my truck that i did for the CL-S (it helps when a top-of-the-line exhaust is only 100 bucks and headers are 150, etc) it was fun having the CL-S, i loved it, but man, did i lose my ass....on the mods, on the trade in, on insurance, on tickets....its crazy. ill never do anything like it again, unless ive got the cash to pay for it all UP FRONT!! also, i dont stress anymore about door dings, where i park, rock chips, needing a car wash, etc...life with the CL-S was a fun experience, but i can say im better off without it.

If you think buying a car isn't a big investment then you must have a shitload of money to pay it cash out the door. for some of us, financing for 4-5 fuckin years is an investment because of the interest, insurance, because of the time to fix it if it breaks, and to some people who literally live in their car because of commutes or use their cars for business. Once the warranty is over, everything after that is out of your pocket so now I gotta INVEST some money into the car if something happens to it. Some of us don't have the luxury to say it isn't an investment and just say it's a piece of metal, get rid of it and buy new. Some people will keep their cars until the very end, so you say that isn't an investment? Everything depreciates as soon as it leaves the door or dealer, we all know that.

In my eyes, it's just a car. Yeah, I do get worked up over getting a new mod, or if a new scratch appears, but it's just a depreciating item and will eventually be replaced. I hope the same can't be said for my wife, who is a much bigger priority than a car.

Yep... pretty much going thru the same thing as everyone else. Just traded in my '01 CLS for a '03 CLS 6sp. Now I've got to start over again. I was just beginning to relax with the '01 before I got the bright idea to trade her in. I'm having fun with my new '03. Just modded it with CT spr/swy/int/hdrs... Now I'm obsessing on what to buy next. STOP IT! I have to tell myself. Time to think about other things... like .....

I waited five-and-a-half damn months to take my baby back to the track. Yes, I love my CL-S...she's a huge part of my life. Of course, I'm divorced, and I had my heart stomped by my ex-girlfriend, so I have a slightly different perspective. I focused a ton of my energy into my car, and I'm enjoying it very much, thank you!!

Hey, you can live in a car, but you can't drive a house!
:-)
Actually, I'm going though the same thing.. we are building a new house and every $ that goes to springs/headers/CAI/insurance is less money for a deck, garage.. etc.

My car sadly enough is my life. OTher than College and crap like that I spend the majority of my day thinking about my car and what I can do to it. I've spent more time working on her and installing mods than I have with all my Gf's combined. It's a horrible investment, but so is a bitch. At least when I spend money on my car I see some result.

I think it's safe to say that we love our cars to a certain degree. We all know the limitations for modding our cars and once it's been modded there's really nothing left to do but enjoy it. I know the only things I'm investing in is headers, rims+tires and sways. After that I don't think i'll be doing anything else. I think maybe sometime in the next 2 years I'll be looking to buy a house. Some people put their energy into their rides cuz it makes them happy...I'm one of those people

mc222, this is my first sport, luxury vehicle so i feel it has a substantial value also.

The CLS is my 3rd car. I've gone through many phases w/ my obsession of autos. My S10 w/ the V8 was my project car when I wanted to get my hands dirty and work on the truck myself. The Mitsu GSX was my first foreign car and I let mechanics do most of the work (due to the complexity) but I followed it very closely and used to run it down at E-town all the time. The CLS I thought was going to be my entry comfort car (it's not a luxury car IMO) and I did not think I was going to do anything but a few grand later on sound and speed and I saw myself right back in the same place. My next car, I hope I won't be sucked into the mod game but I doubt i'm sure I will . I love cars, I love reading about them, driving them etc. I would not say i'm obsessed by any stretch and I'm much more grounded than that. I'd have to say behind my friends and family, cars and computers definitely come next.

Ah... While coming from the drag Strip at NED, and passing like 1/2 dozen State troopers leeching racers on the HW a guy in his CRX with big fart gave me the look and jumped as if he is the BOSS.. a car was just in front of him...

To let him understand... I downshifted to 3rd and zipped from 80 to 110 at the top of 3rd and the guy was like 1/2 mile away and stayed there...

Adranaline flew in my head in for few secs... and that was enough for the night...

Your ride can entertain you and can kill you too!

I really like it. And appreciate it. But I don't obsess about it. One reason I bought the CL-S is so I could just drive it and not have to spend time modding it. Right now I want to put that kind of time and energy and money into my business and house, not car.

I don't spend every hour thinking about it, but i get withdrawl symptoms if i don't go for a fun drive after a couple days.

I just really appreciate and care for it - i'm damn lucky to have this nice of a car.

If this is the case, the word u are using, "invest," is totally placed in the wrong context. By talking about investments, you are hoping that they will someday appreciate, which is NOT the case with any car. I understand exactly what u are saying, but the way u word ur thoughts is misleading.....for example, when u say, "I gotta INVEST some money into the car if something happens to it," that is completely incorrect usage of the word invest....in place of INVEST, try saying something like "spend" or "put." It would make a lot more sense and in addition you wont look as ignorant and crass......For everyone knows that a car will not appreciate, EVER....Thus, it cannot be an investment of your money, nor ur time....A waste of money and time, Yes!

As for "Some of us don't have the luxury to say it isn't an investment and just say it's a piece of metal, get rid of it and buy new. " that is irrelavant to the topic. and i can see u still dont understand the point....A CAR IS NOT AN INVESTMENT TO YOU or ANYONE ELSE.....i know u spend time, and thats great. Maybe you have to DEVOTE a lot of time.....The idea im trying to get across with my long-winded explanation is for u to see how its not an investment of ur time and money....its a devotion. hope this makes sense to u,......

financing for 4-5 fuckin years is an investment because of the interest, insurance, because of the time to fix it if it breaks

BTW, how can INTEREST, INSURANCE, and CAR MAINTENCE BE an INVESTMENT to ANYONE????? LOL u must be crazy.... If u know anything about business and accounting, THEY ARE ALL LIABILITIES....EVERY SINGLE on of them each a liability....Investments are separate.....oh nvm....go make use of your education instead...(now an EDucation, THAT IS definitely AN INVESTMENT i urge you to look into)......i can go on forever about this

ahh, so here we go with all the shit talkin...I was waiting for you to say something like this. First off, anytime you shell out money for something you're spending right? For those that keep their car after it's been paid off is an investment. You buy house and spend for it so that's not an investment? Other people will agree that a car IS an investment and if you don't like it, who cares? I really don't give a shit hoot about any business courses or knowledge you know but I think YOU took what I said the wrong way. Other people read it and let it go, but you...you gotta try to be smarter than everyone right? I don't even know how you're gonna talk about me or my education? Do you know me? You come here quoting everything someone says and then try to bash someone you don't know. FYI, I may have used INVEST out of context but that was just to piss you off cuz I knew you'd come back like this. Don't talk about not giving a shit about your car but yet you go and buy rims and mods for it. Obviously you want to make your car better right? So if money ain't a thing for you, why not just give your mods to me so I won't have to spend anything. By the way, since you start talking shit about me and don't know me personally or my educational background, why don't you just suck a dick Mr Big. If I have offended anyone on here, my bad. When people ask for opinions or advice, they're just that...opinions and advice. Some people will painstakely go out of their to make things irrelevent and :ghey:
