CL 6 speed vs. Impala

Beat an Impala the other day, no big deal, but figured I'd post anyway. He was in front of me for a minute or 2, driviing fast, figured he'd be game. We got to line up at the light, didn't really look at him to see if he wanted to go, so,.. took off fairly normally, up to about 5K, he stayed w/ me, so it was on, only had him by a nose till I hit 3rd, then I was gone. I gotta get some headers, ...wont be till July because I'm going to the field for two months

Good kill, I wonder which trim it was.

Sedan: 3.4L, 180hp, 205lb-ft - 3389lbs curb weight
LS: 3.8L, 200hp, 225lb-ft - 3466lbs curb weight
SS: 3.8L SC, 240hp, 280lb-ft - 3564lbs curb weight

[bench_racing] Must have been LS, because statistically the SS should have won that race, and the base Sedan would have been no contest! [/bench_racing]

from what I've seen, the new Impala SS is a mid 15 second car. Therefore, the race shouldn't have been a problem. The CLS6 runs 14.5 and below, depending on the driver (usually).

You gotta be kidding !!!!

With 20hp less and 50lb-ft more than a CL-S, as well as an extra 100lbs, it should still be a low 14 sec car. The SS has the power to run low-mid 14s, must be the shitty 4-speed slushbox.

^^ Its just like the Grand Prix GTP, lots of power, but its being held back by a terribly geared tranny

It's got 20hp less and 28lb-ft more, and weighs a bit more. Plus, the gearing sucks I believe. Who knows?

280 - 232 = 48 (not 28)

Their slushbox may benefit significantly from a higher stall torque converter.
