I've been wanting to do it for a few years now, just never got around to it. I did just notice though, on the new accords honda uses a tape to cover up the molding. It's black and they use it on most of the new accords. I've been wanting to go see if the tape is for sale. Don't want to send my car into a body shop to paint that little thing. The thing that sucks is the 2nd half isn't removeable. That's why you would have to go to a body shop, no way i'm paying them to paint that little shit for me.
there was somebody on the Maxima forum that used some kinda tape to cover the chrome trim on his car, and if you weren't looking for it, it looked factory. I'll try to find out what kind of tape it was and post if I find it. Would be something that I think would complement my Anthacite, and everybody else's too.

Back in the day, I had a 280ZX and I did the chrome on that car with some blackout tape, but I have not seen that stuff in years. It came out very nice. Took some time to apply but worked pretty well.

I went to a body shop to see if they could paint em and they strongly advised against it. They said since it is chrome they could never get the paint to stick right. They didn't want to do my door handles, either....same thing.
I did a quick search and there is a company called TrimBrite - I think they sell their stuff through most auto parts retailers. They have blackout tape. It only comes in 1 1/8 x 20, but that should be more than enough to get the minimal amount of chrome done.
I asked my auto body guy about doing this and this is what he said.
It CAN be done, but it’s not an easy process.
He recommended all NEW trim because the stuff tends to get bent up when you remove it.
He said he could order all the new trim pieces and then use some kind of “sandblasting” technique to remove the chrome and roughen up the surface.
After that he would paint them with several coats of flat black to resist chalking.
The one procedure that scares me is that he was pretty sure the two rear windows need to be pulled to swap the trim back there.
Total estimated cost he said would be about 300-350 dollars for everything.

Spartan Plastics T9005 Blackout Tape
I bought some a while back and will probably do it this weekend. Just got motivated.
I'll take pics when I'm done.
