Check Engine Light came on

Started the car this morning and while warming up the car, the car started reving real funny. tach was slowly bouncing up and down, between 1K and 2.5k. restarted the car and it went away. this evening while driving, the car is real jerky when i let go of the gas. i put the car to neutral and the tach slowly bounces btwn 1K and 2.5K again. this time the engine light comes on with the tcs light. pulled to the side, restarted the car and now the check engine light won't go off. car drives kinda okay...at times the car would still be jerky when i let go of the gas. will have the car checked sometime this week. what could be wrong?

doesn't seem like the tranny cuz it started when i was warming up the car. while parked, car started reving up and down. driving seems fine except for the jerky feeling when i release the gas.

You could try to reset the ECU, but maybe take it to Auto Zone and have them pull the code first.

would resetting the ecu do any harm if there really is a problem. no, right? the engine light would just come back on and the code would resurface.

well, i reset the ecu by disconnecting the negative wire on the battery. reconnected and now the check engine light is off. idle seems normal at this time. seems to drive normally. will continue to monitor. could it be that the computer just got hosed up because of the cold?

It's the Linear Solenoid

Take the the dealer as soon as possible your linear solenoid has gone bad, that is part of the transmission that governs the shifting of the car...

The linear solenoid is probably out of the range that will be cover under warranty takes about 3 hours to replace!

hope this helps...

^^jleelu is prob right. I was thinking it was a bad lockup torque converter but that wouldn't explain the check engine light.

the problem arose not while i was driving but while i was warming up the car while it was in park. i did reset the ecu and all seems fine at this time. the shifting of gears seems okay as well. it was only when i was in idle, neutral or in park that i did notice the problem. again, now it seems okay. i will continue to monitor. thanks.
