Check Engine Light
Check Engine Light
This morning, around 430 hrs. Coming home I had my check engine light come on. It came on just as I was pulling into my neighborhood. I didn't pull in fast, just nice and slow cause I was tired and, boom the light comes on. My oil, for me, is 200 miles over due (3200 miles on it). I've got 27900 on the odometer. I have an AEM CAI that I haven't recharged yet, could that be a potential problem.
Any clue what it could be? Yea I know that I now have to take it to the dealer but just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else. Just so that I can prep myself for the shit that I have to hear.
Tnx

Check Engine Lights tend to be O2 sensors. Either you dont have one plugged in...or a vacuum line is loose that leads to the sensor...or maybe the one in your cat got broken...any number of things...basically, the light has to due with smog and air/fuel...until you get it fixed..your car will bog...as it is in running in safe mode which means lots of extra fuel to prevent any detonation that might be occurring within your motor.

PHUCKING BINGO!!!
Thats the same thing that I thought. And after today, including ur reply, I am for sure. I filled up today; 235 miles. TO THE TANK. Man I get at least 300 and that is average. And with my tranny (2nd) going out I get MORE miles to teh gallon. My previous tank was 352 miles. I have no idea why that when the tranny begins to go out that u get more mpg
. If I could only figure that out I would incorporate that into my CLS.Tnx

when i got gas and did not click the cap at least 3 times the check engine light came on, i fix the gas cap and then the light went off in a day or so, it says after three starts it should go off.

OBDII = On-Board Diagnostics, second iteration. It is a standard set forth to make things similar across all vehicles. It primarily stipulates requirements for the air and fuel systems particularly when related to emissions.
But there are different status levels and a solid light indicates a minor failure. Major failures cause the SES light to flash.
Under the OBDII mandated codes there are over a hundred possibilities and not all are centered around the O2 sensors, only about 10 relate to those sensors. There are also hundreds more related to the specific manufacturer some of which may or may not light the SES.
The only way to know DTC which set the SES light is by reading it with a scan tool.
