Car Trivia: Navigation Sys

I was trying to figure out what was the first mass produced car available in the US that had a Navigation System as an option?

At first I thought it was the Lincoln Navigator cuz that’s really the first time I remember hearing anything about them. However I then remembered seeing them in BMW 7 Series long before '98.

Also what was the first American, Japanese & German car to offer Navi as an option here in the US?

Well, I could argue that my 1976 Celica had a Navi system. Seems my ex-wife was always telling me where to go.

I know we are talking cars and trucks...but you'd be interested to know that the company AirStream introduced the system back in the early 90's...as it was a very strong selling point for people wanting to take that "Around the Country" trip. I think it was 1991 with a screen about as big as an old Game Boy black and white only and you had to have discs for every state and in some cases every region...

But yeah, as far as i know, that and some semi truck manufacturers (like Mercedes Benz and Volvo) were implimenting them...

I don't know who was first, but I do remember that my uncle had a Mercedes S-class that had a navigation system built into the head unit and that was a 1995 model!
