Car Talk needs some re-organization

Soopa and Misc Moderators,

I think you need to have a discussion about parsing up car talk a little bit. I find it hard to find things now and the number of posts per minute make it hard to sort through. I think you need a suspension section (sways, springs, shocks, coilovers, struts, etc) and a wheel/tire section. Its just getting really crowded in here.

Oh, and just to be self serving in this, if you like this idea, then give me a great rating...if you think it's dumb, mind your own business...

I too think this is a great idea... the only problem is that those forums usually get no traffic. Acura-TL.com used to have this similar setup and b/c of the lack of traffic, people would post those topics in the general TL forum anyway to get answers, so they did away with a couple of forums. It's not up to me either way, the Admins would handle this, but who knows... stranger things have happened!!

Okay, here is another option but it would mean more work for the mods. After a week or so they would have to review the posts and move them out into the categories so that we could find them or sift through them later.

For example, if I want to get some information on springs vs. coilovers and see who likes what, I need to search through a million posts or re-ask the same question...

I don't have the solution; I think it warrants some discussion between the people who will be given the work to do...

I don't know how the board software works, but is there any way to require users to specify a category for each post they make? They'd all show up in the same forum, but for searching later, you could narrow your search to wheel/tire posts, or whatever.

Thats probably the best idea out of all. Personally I can usually find what I am looking for using the search function. Seperating car talk up in to specific groups would probably do just what juniorbean said. Having the moderators do any seperation manually wouldn't be the best idea either, since they are already doing alot as is.

If the users could tag the post with one of like 20 or something preset "subject areas" (wheels, suspention, body...) and those tags could be incorporated into the search algorithm that would be pretty cool.
