Car is slammed, transmission leaking...
Ok so my tranny has been leaking all over the place, so I bring it in and they come to the conclusion that the carrier bearing is so worn and the seal is broken and thats the cause of the leakage. DUE to my car being lowered, anyone have this problem? they said the transmission needs to be replaced but its not going to be covered because the vehicle has been altered. Im thinking of putting the car back up to stock height and taking it to another dealer... any suggestions?
Maybe even a slight bump on the under body could have caused it. I don't really know myself. This is one of the reasons I decided not to lower my car, my mechanic got under it and measured. He highly advised I not lower it. Let me know what it is though.
My 01' CL was lowered 1.8 inches all around and its tranny seal was broken and it leaked but I had it replaced but I didn't have the worn carrier bearing. Needless to say I never had to replace the tranny.

Where was the seal located? I asked the rep if I could just replace the seal but she said the techs advised I get a new transmission... besides the fact that its leaking all over the place it still drives fine and shifts fine.

Mine was a very minor leak and it sounds like yours is more than that. Since it still drives get a 2nd opinion while you can before your tranny siezes up.

lol acura techs will always advise you to get the most expensive thing, for example, my idle was rough, they told me to get stock headers, intake, and exhaust.....i had my iac valves cleaned for 40$ at another shop and the problem went away
Yeu said it perfectly. Take it to a whole in the wall tranny shop and they will tell you the same, acura is acura man, they'll chop your head for anything... My CL is lower than yours and I havent had any problems, and 75% of the cars on here are lowered and most havent any issues minus bushings and stuff of that nature. Trust me, change the seal yourself, or take it to a mom and pop trans shop. let me know what they say.
lol about racing lambos on the mountain.
Thanks for the insight guys, I figured it was as easy as replacing a seal but they were telling me its internal and not serviceable
I was gonna use this as an excuse to get a new car but if this fixes the leak than i'll prob keep it till sometime next year. Regardless im not dumping 4200 for a new tranny.

good luck buddy.
But i guess it makes sense to replace the seal and see what happens rather than changing the whole tranny.
They are usuLLY A BLACK OR BRWN RUBBER PIECE THAT SLIPS AROUND THE AXLE

easy there.....
So the leaking part is the axle shaft seal? You replace this when you replace an axle.
How do they know the carrier bearing is shot? Did they open it up? You may just need a new seal. Any local shop can replace that. However if it's leaking you may as well replace the axle on that side too. You can get parts for under $100.

i agree, and if he hit his tranny on something, i imagine he'd had other issues than it just leaking. im sure its not because your car is lowered bro... how many miles your car and if this isnt your first tranny how many miles on this one? just curious. the seals usually last a while. just my
I had the same thing on my 01 CL lowered on coilovers, the seal is like a $5 part but it was leaking all over. I sold the car and the buyer was aware, he informed me that the fix was easy and as far as I know, the car is still running to this day. Maybe the lowering of the car puts more stress on the axle and angles it which might cause a leak. But to replace the whole tranny, that sounds fishy.
