Car problem - anyone else have it happen?

Hey Everyone,

While driving on the highway yesteday, my car starting making a weird knocking noise coming from somewhere under the engine near the other side of the pedals I think. The noise does not happen when I am accelerating or braking. You can hear it while coasting or turning left it gets really loud.

Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Thanks,

John

hmm...Sounds wierd if its from the outside of the car...it could be:

1. The Axle
3. Stabilizer Bar
4. Spring & or Strut

Does it make the noise when you go over uneven pavement or bumps?

If it changes when you turn it might be a cv joint on the way out.

Doesn't seem to make any noise while going over bumps. I am thinking its just a cv joint. Any idea how much its going to cost at the acura dealer? I live in Gainesville and don't know any good car places.

I know this thread is over a year old, but the same thing just started happening to my car on the way home from work tonight. I didn't notice if it happens when turning, but everything else is exactly the same. If it is a CV joint, will the car be unsafe to drive to work tomorrow morning?

best way to test cv joint is to go to a smooth parking lot and turn the wheel all the wayto either side and go in circles and stick you head out the window

CV Joints don't generally just all of the sudden STOP working. It will get worse over time and the clicking will grow louder. Also, as it gets worse, you'll notice the car making that sound when you apply power to the wheels in almost any condition.

You should be fine to drive the car to work.

My problem was just a loose screw in an obscure place. Really weird but my mechanic was able to find and fix. Good luck!

I have the same issue. Could you elaborate on the obscure place?

I took mine to the shop and apparently it was just my wheels were loose...sounds ridiculous but thats what it was. They looked like they were on fine, and i checked the lugs by hand and everything seemed fine, but they said once they had it on the lift they could see they were loose. Pretty sweet for me since i didn't have to shell out close to a grand for some CV joints
