I was driving at about 65mph and all of a sudden the car just stopped! It was scary as hell, because I was in the middle lane of a 6 lane freeway. I pulled over and I did notice that low fuel light was on but it had just barely lit up. The check engine light came on as well. As the car was about to stall, I heard a sound coming from the hood sounding like power or gas was cut off. It sounded a little bit like how an airplane comes to a stop.

I pulled over to the right and I tried to start the car. It sounded like the spark would crank but it wouldnt start the car. I waited a few minutes and then I gave it a little push on the accelerator and then it finally started.

I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this? Its been 3 days and the car is fine now. I just wanted to know what could it have been? I dont think it was the low gas issue. Any input would help.

did the whole car jerk to a stop or did the engine just shut off? If it was a sudden jerk like it had downshiftedon it's own then it's probbably the transmision.
otherwise, I have no idea.

my car has done that to me twice. cel never came on, but it did spit and sputter a few times. it was like 2 coil packs went out for a minute or two.

Wasn't this a symptom of the ignition switch recall? Or was that even a problem on the CLs?

I don't think you ran out of gas unless you really drove a long way with the gas light on. And the coilpacks won't kill the car, it'll just make it run rough as hell.

the car didnt jerk, it sounded like the engine just shutoff. It cant be the tranny

Either tranny, or fuel related. pump, relay, lines, etc. Any CE light on now? Maybe get the car scanned to see what is stored.

mine didn't cutoff. it was just spitting and sputtering like it was missing on a couple of cylinders.

Yes they do. I know someone first hand who's TLS engine cut off in the middle of I95 in Miami.
Car jerked, the engine cut off. He lost all power, had to power steer between traffic & get to the shoulder.
He's in a lawsuit with Acura right now.

His tranny downshifting hard into 2nd gear, then that caused something with his fuel system to shut down.

I'm not saying that was your problem, but there's a chance. Did you pull codes from the ECU? That's the only way to know what's going on.

Sounds like a tank of bad gas finally caught up with you. Dirty gas that clogged the fuel filter or the fuel line. Or, your fuel pump is just going bad.

Either way, doesn't sound like a transmission issue.
