Car Audio????

Just wondering if there is a certain area to go for Audio talk?? If soo.. just move it to the correct place..

Anyways.. I have a problem with my system. I have an Alpine 9828?? Boston acoustic components all around, 1 JL W3 Slotted Box, 1 400/1 JL Amp, and 1 300/4 Amp.. Im running it with Rocket Fostgate wiring. Everything is hooked up correctly but its making this stupid "whining noise".

I use to have the same set up in my old 00 SI and it never made the noise...
What could be the problem???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

That would be engine noise from a pinched spreaker wire or RCA.

It doesn't have to be a pinched wire. If you get some sandpaper and sand the paint away at your ground point it will go away. You want the best metal to metal contact you can get.

There are a few things that can cause engine or ignition whine. When you ran the cables, did you separate the RCAs from the power cables? If you ran them together you can induce noise into the system. They must be separated from each other. Bad grounds can cause noise too. Make sure that your ground cables are the same gauge as your power cables. Did you ground your amps at different points on the car? That can introduce noise. I used the star ground method; grounding at the same point(although some may disagree on this method but it worked for me) Make sure that the grounding points are clean and must be "metal to metal", no paint or undercoating. Make sure that the bolts that hold the grounds are tight. Also make sure that the grounding points are at the frame or parts that are attached to the frame. Many times grounds are grounded on parts that are not connected directly to the frame. Other possibilities are a bad alternator, weak battery, or as mentioned pinched speaker or RCA cables, causing a short to ground, which causes ground loops. Also make sure that your head unit is to a good ground too. Sometimes when you connect your head unit to an stock head unit's wire harness ground, can cause noise. Hope this helps

Yeah just make a better ground for either the HU or for the amps and you should be fine. The grounds have to be touching bare metal or you'll get that whinning noise. If it continues then it's a bad internal ground on the HU and will need to get a new one. I do car audio and had the same problem with a couple cars now.

We can't move stuff from here to over on the audio forum, so you'll have to repost your question here:
