That scratch makes it look realy ugly... make you not even wanna drive it...
If you got full coverage ins., they will probably total it out, then you can get a new car...

You know, you should really warn people -- what they are about to see is very disturbing....

I don't understand why the "Fuckin Acrua"? That doesn't look near bad enough to deploy air bags, actually it doesn't look like a very bad smash at all (of course I wasn't in the car when it happened). I'd say easily fixable.. YMMV

In response to Fuckin acura, my vehicle was hit by 2nd party vehicle that was traveling at approx. 45MPH. The driver's air bag should of definitely deployed due to the angle the vehicle was struck. Part of my job is an accident reconstruction specialist for the FEDS, which is why I say FUCKIN ACURA.............. Believe me I'll be contacting my counterparts at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

ktgumbo,
Exactly....I don't know why some people think the airbag(s) should not of deployed. 45MPH! give me a break, that's what airbags are for, an added safety measure.

Should they have gone off ??? probably.
Honestly, I think you would have been in better shape if you drove in a safer manner and not have crashed though...

At least you walked away uninjured. I think you could probably buff it out.

Dude, that does look bad. Question though...How fast were you going? You mentioned that other car was going 45 but didn't say if you were moving or stationary. But yeah, a front end collision like that should deploy the airbag. Hope you're ok.

that car will definately not be considered totalled, especially considering the airbags didnt even deploy (the airbags are always a HUGE cost to replace) that car will be back on the road in no time, after your insurance forks over at least 10,000 plus whatever your deductable is...

No major injuries. I was moving at about 5-10 MPH as the light just turned green, and the other vehicle tried to beat the yellow light. 61 year old lady wearing glasses......go figure.

I hope everyone involved is ok.

Sorry about your car, dude.

Did anyone notice that the windshield didn't crack at all?

This is the third or fourth CL-S frontal accident picture i've seen which looked bad and the windshield wasn't cracked at all. Good structural integrity maybe????

I realize it looks bad ( and it is ) but everything buckled and shifted like it was suppose to.

If there were any translational forces during impact the bags will not deploy.

Good, then their was no reason for the airbags to go off! if they went off, you would have been injured! It's nice to know that our car isn't a whimpy sensative pos that depolys its airbags when they're not needed. Now stop you bitching about "fucking Acura"

Jesus Christ!!! The sensors for those Airbags are probably MUCH smarter than some of the Airheads on this board.

maybe because of the angle he hit you, that the air bags didn't go off. Was it head on or did he hit you from the side?

the airbags shoulf of deff be deployed. its was a front impact. but I think you saved money by having the headlights/hids and airbags in 1 piece.

I’m no “expert” on this, but I think the Airbags are designed NOT to go off in this type of crash.
There was hardly any forward motion of the car and the impact was from the SIDE.

IF they would have gone off it may have caused undue injury to you and your passenger.

Yes I believe the car has to be going at least a certain speed around 15-20 mph for the front airbags to go off, since the airbag sensors pick up forward speed plus you were hit on the side so that might be another attribute...anyways just call up the local dentpro and get it "messaged" out...shouldn't cost too much...

I am pretty sure that the car is totalled after having been through
a similar looking accident. The airbags cost nearly 3-3.5k for replacement. The airbags (like others have said) are designed to protect you in a frontal collision -- from your description this was more like a side-impact clipping your front, right?

I'd estimate 10k without looking under the hood -- my CL-S was nearly 3.5k for the headlights and associated parts and labor. The hood runs about 700. Both fenders need replacing as well as the bumper and its mounts to the frame. How are the wheels, esp the right one? If there is wheel mount and suspension work -- I can see an estimate exceeding 15k.

I imagine ins cos. total at 65-75% value which would be roughly 15k assuming our cars (01 CLS) is valued at 25k.

Keep up updated. --SVR

No way is that totaled.
It looks like the other car just caught the front bumper by a couple of inches.
Notice the headlights aren’t even hit.
It’s all bodywork and the powertrain probably isn’t even touched.

It will be expensive, but most insurance companies will go to 90 percent or more of the value of the car which is probably 18-22K in this case.

Airbags are triggered by rate of deceleration. As you were only going 10MPH or so, your rate of deceleration would have to be VERY violent to trigger the airbags.

Were you injured at all?

You have to be moving more than 15 MPH for the airbags to deploy.... Your just lucky they did not have to call the Funeral director .... I am sorry for your loss, but most importantly you are safe.... I still would of took a baseball bat to that old ladies head though... Just crush her skull, stick her in the trunk and give her some cement shoes..LOL...

They are right about the airbag deployment. They won't deploy until about 15mph. Trust me I know, I have been working in Interior Trim Engineering for about 5 years with about 3yrs in I/Ps. A lot of work is done to protect unbelted occupants in slow moving crashes. Hope you were belted in.
