No, you can't see through 5% tint. How dark are you going on the sides? Are you having all 5 windows tinted?

I got 5% tint all around and i LOVE it. During the day with the sun out you can see someone is in the car but thats it and even thats hard. At night from the outside you can't see in at all. From the inside its cool during the day but driving at night gets to be a pain with seeing lines, etc. But its not to bad. That all depends if you get if you get your front windows tinted too. But i say get it, as long as you live in an area that cops won't bitch about tint. Goodluck

I got a compromise at 15%. Dark enough, but you can still see. I think you would be happy with that.

just go slow and honk. the sample tint they have sure seems light for 5%. i'll probalby go with that, then for the front i think it's 30-35% or so. it's the metalic so it's a little reflective. my friend has it on her jag and it looks sick. as soon as i get it done i'll post some pics.

That's what I'm planning on doing, since the law around here is 18%/35%, so I'm thinking 25%/35%.

Cops will hassle you and give you a fix it ticket if your tint is obviously darker than legal limit.

Just get the lowest legal in your area.
Most states seem to be around 35% which is actually nice and dark except in bright sunlight. Wear a pair of sunglasses if it's so important to keep the evil bright light from your eyes. :P

I got 12% tints on my car. Its so dark. At night its pretty hard to see out the back. They left a little bit of the top untouched to get light in. Its nice and cool during the day but at night its pitch black.

I had 5% “LIMO” tint on the T-Tops of my Daytona Shelby-Z and it was actually PURPLE when you looked out the roof in the middle of the day.
I would NEVER want that on my side windows no matter how cool it looked.

I will probably go 20% on my REAR window on the 2003 and keep the 35% on the sides.
NOTE: ANY tint is illegal in Pennsylvania.

Shawn S: The purple is because whatever brand you used was junk. Quality tint has no purple to it.

Could very well be. That was 14-Years ago and I didn’t know any better.

I have been lurking for a couple of months on this board. I am going to be getting an 2003 Aegean Blue CL-S 6-Speed w/navi this summer. And I have tons of questions. But by just reading and searching I usually find all the answers. One question I do have is this, all of this talk about out tint. I want to tint the windows in my car when I get it because I live in the south and it gets hotter than Anna Pournikova. And I would like to get the V1 radar detector. So my question is this, how does tint affect the performance of the V1? I am a newbie so don't pile on too bad. I am soooo looking forward to the 6-speed.

Some here would disagree with me, but I would tell you to stay away from any kind of METALLIC tint if you are getting the NAV and V1.

Mike Valentine specifically says that they reduce REAR performance.
The receiving antenna for the NAV is below the rear parcel shelf and “looks” up through the rear window.

BTW….Did my license plate give you your idea for your user name ???

Thanks for the info... I will remember that when the time comes.

As far as the name, Speed Racer was my favorite cartoon growing up. And I like his brother Racer X. And my favorite number is 24. And I am not a Jeff Gordon fan. Or a NASCAR fan for that matter. But your tag is nice. I likes alot. Racer X is the sh%#!!!!!

20%

gmilian,

I have 20% all around and love it. At first I thought too light, and then too dark because of the cops up here. But now.... it's just perfect, haven't had any hassle and it's just the right darkness. People can see in if there is a light source directly opposite them on the other side of the car, but otherwise no seeing in. I also had my sunroof done at 5% and if you can get that I would recommend it. Makes the sunshade obsolete.

Here's a thread with pictures of it done.

5% really isn't bad at all. I have 5% +20% on all windows (front windows, rear windows, 3rd row windows, rear windshield). Front windshield is at 20% with limo visor on top. Lights can be difficult to see if you are not use to having tint, but everything gets easier the more you drive it.

Bumped an 18 year old post? My guess is most of the people in this thread don't even own their CL-S anymore.

Maybe after 18 years people have calmed down and don't do 5% anymore! That's way too dark.
