They just released a kick ass unique looking flagship Infiniti luxury car... and a week later they release thier near bottom end model... AND IT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME.

Shame on them.

I liked the Altima sketches much better.

The tail lights are ok...the car overall in looks isn't all that, but i'm sure their going to start busting out kits parts left and right for that car due to the low price compared to the CL. not fare....we pay more and they end up with more mods!

I doubt the Altima will have 240hp. I mean, that's fucking nearly a 100hp jump. And if that were true, the price of the car would be a lot more. The Altima is NOT a high end vehicle. It's made to compete with a lower end Accord. The Maxima is rumored to get 260hp from a RWD differential. But all this is rumors from what I hear.

I can believe the Maxima will get the 260hp, but I sincerely doubt the Altima will have the 240. It just doesn't make sense. If anything, I can see the Altima having 180 with a V6 option.

 

smileman, we will all find out on wenesday. The unreveiling is at the new york auto show. Go to the nissan website and you can watch it there. im pretty sure it will be close to 240hp.

 

Nissan isn't the most financialy comfortable company, so don't be surprised if they do something radical to compete.

It'll only help us in the long run.

I wonder if I'll see the day when econo cars have base engines with 300hp.

...or not.

Amen to that! The new Passat, Monte Carlo, Altima, the new freakin' LIGHTNING pickup , the RX300 now has the clear Altezza tails (they used to be red). It's a shame. Manufacturers are taking perfectly good looking cars (except for the Monte, of course ) and turning them into butt ugly pieces of crap. Something like Altezza tails are only cool if ONE or TWO cars do it. Now they're everywhere and in 4-5 years the cars that have them are going to look STUPID AS HELL!

 

Hasn't anyone ever driven one of these things?! Do I have to say more? They couldn't be fast if they were in a tornado going down-hill! I highly doubt that they will be 200+ HP and the Maxima will only have an extra 20! If that were the case everyone would just get the cheaper car (that is of coarse, unless it looked like this). I'm sorry, but I hope that this isn't what it looks like, they will really see sales go down now!

I think it's about time to start worrying or modding. If that car has 240 HP imagine what it would feel like to get beat by an altima. UGH!! I have a sick feeeling in my stomach right now. At least my CL-S looks better.

The Maxima will get the 260hp in August, and it will have minor changes to the body...until the 2003 model.

Ok heres what i think, the maxima will have 260hp BUT it will be as big as the new q45, Cuz isnt the new altima the same size as the current maxima, i read that the new altima is a little larger than the current maxima. So which means they proablly biggie size the maxima this fall...So 260hpp in a q45 size car wont be as fast as everyone thinks. This kinda sucks that an altima can hang with the CLS.

 

I think that altima looks pretty damn good....my friend got one last year and with the SE trim....it looks pretty good. As for the 240...I doubt it...it would eat right into sales of the Maxima...

moonmaster... its already been confirmed, it will have a v6 that will be 240hp in the 2002 altima. Check out the nissan website. This was released today at the new york auto show.

 

well, even if the altima or maxima are faster, that means that the is300 and bimmer guys have someone else to pick on.

240hp. Who knew Nissan would be stupid enough to do it? It now directly competes with the Maxima. If I remember correctly, the prices are similar too- the 240hp is somewhere around $27k. I wonder how much the new Max will go for?

 

The one thing I don't understand is how come Nissan didn't think of putting a powerhouse of an engine like this into their G20? If their G20 had power like this, I would have seriously considered it over the CL-S I just bought. Instead, Nissan decides to get rid of the G20? Lamers. No wonder their asses are constantly in economic turmoil- bad decision making.

 

You're looking at this wrong (IMHO). Having own both an Altima and a Maxima, I'd say they didn't have much choice.

1.) the Altima was too small to compete with the Camry and Accord. They HAD to make it bigger. More, they gave it an increase in power, and more importantly they gave the Altima personality. The Altima was a great car, I'd still have it if someone else didn't think likewise and stole it. But, to make a 190,000 unit sales in that heavily-contested segment, they needed to make some radical changes, or get out of it all together. I like the changes. If I could get wood-trim, which I'm sure will be available, I'd choose the SE (manual) option. As far as the Maxima goes, it's due for the bigger engine. As a matter of fact, the New Z engine at 260 is what's going in the new Maxima....

The deal it that they're getting rid of the shitty looking GXE maxima and hoping to fill that void with the Altima 3.5 SE. I think it's a smart move, now the Altima will be larger then the current Maxima. Maxima will keep the same body style and incorporate a 3.5 260HP V6. the 260hp 3.5 will be available in the i30 very soon too.
