A/C compressor noise...alternator

Third topic about my 30K service now.

One of the things I had Acura look into was a whining noise coming from the engine compartment when my A/C compressor was on - only after the car was hot. Just got a call from Acura. They finished the service but are keeping my car overnight.

My alternator was on the way out so they're replacing it tomorrow when the part arrives. They're also waiting for the brake pads to arrive (this aftn or tomorrow morning).

Anybody have their alternator go?

-RM.

I've had that same a/c whine/noise since the day I bought the car.
Annoys the heck out of me but I assumed it was normal.

Please post the results of what they find with it.

I have been a lurker for quite some time, this is my first post.

I'm glad somebody has finally mentioned this. It bugs the heck out of me. My car has been doing this since the day I got it (demo with 5,500 miles). I now have 33,000 miles.

To me the noise sounds almost like a high pitch belt squeal. It only does it when the compressor is on, and mostly after the engine warms up. I found the AC has to be running at a low speed as well. I generally can reproduce it when the outside temperature is in the mid 80'2 (if the weather is much warmer the AC has to work harder and the squeal is not as loud).

Of course, every time I take it to the dealer, the car won't do it. As soon as I leave, or the next day, it will squeal pretty loudly (figures).

Please let me know if your dealer finds anything and fixes the problem. For me, this has been an ongoing investigation for over a year. It ends in winter because I don't use the AC anymore, but starts again the next spring/summer.

kbc - what you mention is exactly what my problem is/was. It sounded like a belt having a problem.

As my original post mentioned, Acura believes it's the alternator (which they are replacing). When I pick up my car tomorrow, I'll run the A/C during the ride home and listen for it.

More tomorrow.....

I actually have been having the same problem lately. It only happens when it is really hot outside, but the noise is very annoying. I will take it to the dealer very soon.

Thanks for the info

Mine is so annoying that when I first noticed it I thought it was coming from the front right brakepad.

RobOnLI - What came of this?

Did replacing the alternator fix this? I am doubtfull the alternator was the root of the issue, but I have seen stranger things.

Thanks.

Has anybody else experienced this? Any solutions?
