Buying a CL-S or TL-S??

I'm goin to the dealership on thursday to look at the CL and TL. I like both the cars and plan on buying. I think i rather get the car that i can sell for more in around four years.

What car do you guys think will be worth more in around four years??

I was thinkin about this cause the new TL is comin out in 04 so if i get a TL it will be outdated in a year and I'm assuming that would make the resale value of the 03 TL go down.

On the other hand if i get a CL they arent gonna make them anymore after 2004. So would this sort of make the CL a collectors item type of thing in the future??? BTW, i dont know how to drive a manual so i'll be gettin the auto.

Thanks ahead of time for your input!!!!

I'll tell you which one is worth more if you tell me some stock market picks that will make me money in 4 years

The question was simpler for me: I didn't want a four door car. This basic difference made a TL a non-entity for me.

if u want a 6 speed manual tranny..cls is the only one that is available if comapre to tls.. however, if you are going to buy a family car ...tls is a good choice ..the reason i bought cls is i am the only person who is driving it and sometimes my wife will drive it too.. we have no children so our rear seats are rarelly used... and tls seats are softer and more comfortable than cls..so it is up to u...

Get a great deal on a CL-S and enjoy now, you'll still get good resale down the road.

I'm leaning towards the CL-S. I wonder how negtiable they are on the price if i get an auto and pay in full.

Very negotiable is my guess, go for it.

damn, you got more posts then me and don't even have a CL...yet...n e way....if i were in your shoes, i would learn how to drive stick (takes like a hour, then you just gotta get used to it) and go for the CL 6 spd ( i will never get another tiptronic car again in my life, ever)...in my opinion the TL will prolly have the higher resale value, it looks better on the outside...but it's what's on the inside that counts right? (CL interior is so hot, main reason i picked it over the TL, w t f was i thinking??? no bodykit don't even get me started on that...but there's just something about the CL that drew me to it, still tryna figure out what it was...)
basically, if you want more luxory (softer seats), auto, and higher resale, get a TL...but if you like 195"(?) coupes i guess CL is the way to go...

TL will likely have higher resale, as sedans generally hold thier value better then coupes (due to demand I suppose) - check out the residules Acura claims on leases, the TL's is a few K higher. But, IMO, the lines of the CL are far sexier than than the TL. Both are great cars, you'd enjoy either one.

I'd have a very hard time too.

In fact, when I buy a car next summer, I'm going to have a hell of a time choosing one. I've had a coupe for 4 years (ZX2) and I haven't really been that hampered by the lack of 4 doors. However, I'm 31 and it's quite conceivable that in four years I'm married and also have a kid. 2 doors wouldn't work at that point, and I want a car I can keep for a while that's going to age gracefully and be reliable.

Still, getting me into a TL-S instead of a CL-S is not going to be easy. I'd love either one. It's just what four doors represents.

Another thing to think about (at least in my mind) is the uniqueness of the CL versus the TL. Where I live, you really don't see too many CL's at all, especially nice ones. But the TL's are all over the place it seems like. I liked the looks of the TL over the CL, hence my decision. If I was buying a car today, I'd probably go with the 6-speed...

same here, and everyone driving a TL seems to be a 40+ year old woman thats why you gotta make it stand out like mine I think I can safely say nobody else has the combination in the front that I do, TL or CL.

I've had both the CLS & TLS...I loved my CLS, but things changed and it wasn't practical anymore and I needed the extra 2 doors. For the price, you can prolly pick up a auto CLS at a very reasonable price. But the kit + TLS is pretty hot too.

I've had my CL for almost 2 years now, and I LOVE it -- but I really want to get the TL -- my lease is up NEXT November, when I'm guessing the NEW TL's will be available ...

But the resale value should still be fine -- they usually are for Acuras and Hondas ...

Either way, I think you'll be fine. Acura usually has great resale value. I got my 01 CL-S toward the end of 00 but I wish I had waited for the TL-S. My one complaint about the CL is that it only seats 4! Also, aren't 4-doors considered more luxurious? If I had a chance to do it all over again, I'd get the TL-S. Plus, I want to start having kids, so it would've been the better choice for me. Oh well, I'll still keep the CL...

just my $.02

darrinb - You shouldn't let us make the decision for you. It will be something YOU will be holding onto for the next 3 or so years from now. I say drive both cars, and get a feel for them and then make a decision. I love my cls and i came from a nissan pathfinder (taxi-cab) and one of the main reasons for getting the cls was to stop people for bumming a ride all the time. I rarely use my back seats, except for throwing my briefcase back there or using the arm rest to store two more bottles of beer. Now my friends all have their own rides and I don't play NYC cab driver no more. I still say, 4doors or 2doors will have to be something you decide. Family car (cabby) or the sporty car.

I am new to this forum, but I thought I should add my .02 cents.

I currently drive the 2000 Acura 3.2 TL. A really nice semi-luxury, cruising car, but it lacks the driving experience that my old Civic SI and my Integra gave me. Of course we are talking about a completely different class of cars.

So I recently test drove the 2003 CL-TypeS (manual, of course) and I was floored by the different feel it provides compared to my 3.2TL. I am not only talking about the additional power and refreshing feel of manual control, but also the firmer shocks and more responsive ride. Sure it is still a big/heavy car, but for me it is a good compromise between the pure sports car and the pure luxury car.

Since my lease on the TL is coming up, I decided to buy the new 2003 CL Type-S, 6M. Resale value is less important to me than the driving experience I will get over the years.

jts1207,

I made the deal last night and the dealer just informed me that my car will be trucked in the next 2-3 days. I should have it by next week if all goes well.

It will be nice to go back to manual after 2 years of driving the automatic 3.2TL.

CL or TL

I have both. 2002 TL and 2003 CL-S.
If I go out with other people, I like the 4 door, otherwise I prefer the CL-S. I already had the TL when I decided to buy another car. I chose the CL because I wanted to be a little different. It appears that the CL could be more of a "cult" car. But the bottom line is...well...just flip a coin.

Keep us posted!!!!
Keep telling dad, it is a very safe car, and is very luxurious, and had a very comfortable ride!!!!!

Don't tell him, it is very fast, it is very moddable, and that with a few tweaks to the suspension, it corners like its on rails!!!
