Is there an actual equation to the amount of whp vs bhp?

I'm sure you could work one out but it would be transmission specific. because no two transmissions designs are indentical they will have different factors and different levels of effect for those factors.

if it were that simple, dynojet would be out of business ...

Yeah, that's what I figured. There are so many variables that are taken into consideration...why bother?

synopsis:
Brake horsepower (bhp), sometimes called shaft horsepower, is the amount of power available for useful work. Bhp is less than ihp because of the various power losses which occur during engine operation.

To determine the brake or shaft horsepower that is delivered as useful work by an engine, the sum total of all mechanical losses must be deducted from the total ihp.
