brake fade solution?

i'm thinking about autocrossing with my cl, and i know that brakes will fade in about 6 seconds. i was wondering for those of you who have had your rotors replaced/resurfaced under warranty, how hard was it? i have a 2003, should that make a difference? was there a service bulletin number you referred to? any potential solutions to or ways to prevent the brake fade? i need all the info i can get

you shouldnt have any brake fade while autocrossing, the speeds just are not high enough. Even if you get up to 50 something, you will only have to slow down to 20 something for the next turn. If you do get brake fade you arent taking the turns fast enough.

Not an issue with auto-x like CLUofI said. Brakes don't really get much of a workout. Make sure you put pleny of air in the front tires (40+ PSI) or they will get trashed. Auto crossing is an excellent way to learn car control. Not that hard on your car either. FWIW one of the most common causes of warped rotors is slowing from high speed and coming to a stop and holding the brake pedal down at a stop light. The rotor will cool at a different rate where the pads are touching it and can cause warpage.

so you're all saying that full throttle all the way up to a bend then slamming on the brakes to slow for the turn wont warp my brakes?

I had no trouble getting my brakes resurfaced under warranty. It's already been done twice now and I have only 16K miles. I just tell them it's shaking and they fix it for free. Even give me a rental. David McDavid Acura takes care of me good

This is what I would do, or have done.

SS brake lines!!!! This will keep the hoses from expanding after your brake fluid gets hott!! This will also keep your pedal firm and not going all the way down to the floor pan!!! About $100 plus installation.

Better Rotors, perferably dimpled and slotted, or one or the other. This will let the hot gases that build up escape faster thus keeping your rotors cooler. This will also lessen brake fade!! About $200 - 300 depending on which ones you get.

Better Brake Pads. I have the Axxis Metal Masters, and let me tell you, I can SMASH on the brakes and it GRABS!!! The only problem with them, is that they are DUSTY!!!! They will eat up your rotors a little faster as well, but then without friction, you cant stop!!!! There are cabon kelar pads as well as ceramic pads. Ceramic pads are the best, but will only last about 10K miles. Pads go anywhere from $50 a set to $120 a set depending on what you get.

I have only done my front brakes, and the SS lines all the way around. You wont need to do you rear brake rotors or pads for auto crossing. You will DEFINATELY need to upgrade your front barkes though!!!

A big brake kit like the Rotora or Brembo is the best solution of course, but like you said, its not cheap!!!!!

Hope this helps!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

aztec, thanks for all the good info, but i dont think ill be able to upgrade my rotors anytime soon, im low on funds these days... but is it true what the other guys said about not having to worry about warped rotors if im autoxing? like i said, if im going full throttle all the way to the bend and slamming on the brakes to slow for the turn, then that wont do anything?

The stock rotors will warp!!!! Im not sure if its the brake pads or the rotors themselves that are the problem. It took mine about 30K to warp where it was annoying. I just changed them out recently. I drive my car pretty hard, and when we do a twisty run up in sac, by the end of the run my brakes were SHOT!!!!!

Im gonna guess that if you start to autoX, your brakes will warp a lot faster.

If I were you, I would get the SS brake lines and new pads!!!
