Brake Dust

So I installed my brakes last weekend on my CLS6 and all went well. Only bic*h part was I ended up with a broken impact screwdriverbit and waiting for Acura to open so I could get some replacement screws for the rotor.

I got Powerslot Cryo Treated rotors in the front with Hawk HPS pads. The rear I got Brembo Blanks with EBC Greenstuff pads.

I was under the impression that EBC greenstuff pads don't have that much brake dust, but my rears rims are black! I would of thought that the HPS pads w/ slotted rotors would be a lot worse then my rear setup.

Am I crazy or do Greens really put out that much brake dust.

You are not crazy. I have what looks like wet streaks of dust on my rears from the EBC Greenstuff pads. I'm thinking about changing them out for something else because of it. Seems like the dust has been getting worse the longer I've had the pads on. I've had them for about 1 1/2 years.

The EBCs typically dust more while they are breaking in. After that period they dont produce much. Mine never produced much more than stock after break in

I like them, they don't dust that much and have pretty good stopping power.

Another thing I noticed is that my rear are starting to squeek a bit under medium braking and then if I push a bit harder it dissapears. I think I might take them off today and clean them a bit

I retract my previous statement.

Turns out my front pads were toast. Replaced those this weekend and haven't had any dust on the rears (where the EBC pads are) in a couple of days...

EBC puts a coating on their pads for pad break in periods. It is a heavy dark coating that will eventually burn off.

Every pad makes noise and every pads makes dust. It just depends on how much. EBC tends to emit less dust and the dust is generally a lighter color than other pads.
