BOOST - Something interesting

As I had posted a couple months ago, when I am at WOT through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, my boost levels off around 8psi. Obviously, that's higher than the pulleys should technically produce. Anyway, for shits and giggles, I plugged my IMRC back in yesterday and did some WOT runs. I noticed the car felt a little quicker, as expected according to previous dynos. No pinging heard . The thing I noticed was the boost maxed out around 6psi, as it is supposed to. Why would boost be greater with the IMRC unplugged? I thought boost was boost...

Opening IMRC = larger volume of air can enter intake easier. Less restrictive air flow = less boost. Or something like that.

If you didn't have headers or exhaust you might see more boost. I would suspect the gauge isn't very accurate. Does it stay pegged at 8psi or does it just "spike" at 8psi and then drop back.

Sorry, I guess that statement was a little misleading. It peaks at about 8-8.5 psi. I guess the PV=nRT thingy makes sense.

Monday I hit a little beyond 7.5 psi.

Although, given my most recent fuel pressure revelation, my faith isn't placed to heavily in these gauges. Even if they were functioning 100%, the boost gauge is only accurate +/- 0.5psi

That's my understanding also. High boost numbers don't necessarily reflect the amount of power generated. The SC is basically a air pump. The more restriction, the higher the pressure you're going to see upstream of the restriction. Remove the restriction, boost may drop but gain you HP because of the higher air volume/flow.

I think I can FEEL the little added power with the IMRC reconnected but I was definitely hearing that "nails in a can" sound again. I'll unhook it so I don't blow anything up.

Temps in the 40-50's today.

yep.. i figured it would not be long before you head detonation again....
FYI:... that nails in a can sound only takes 1 good time for your motor to go BOOM.

with cooler temps you will see increased boost levels... Scalbert might comment.

Once a year someone posts that their CL-S runs like a beast when the weather cools off...

I thought that I read others having more of a "pinging" problem in winter. This would make sense in CA because of the Winter fuel blend that they sell for "Cleaner Air". Probably more volatile for a complete combustion. Not sure if WA does the same.
