BONEHEAD move of the year! HELP!

I accidentally threw away my car keys. I have a spare key, but no spare FOB. If I unlock the door the horn will start honking...anyone know what I can do? Thanks

Start the car with the key? Every factory security system I can think of can be defeated this way.

Aaron, if this is the actual SPARE key (the one with the chip), it will NOT turn on the alarm. If it's the valet key, don't do it. I was given a CLP as a loaner once w/o the FOB and I set off the alrm by pulling the lock open and they said just start the car with the key.... Hope this helps. I think I've tried opening the door w/o the fob and the alarm on too..

Thanks. I'll try unlocking it in the morning (incase the horn goes off I don't want to wake up the neighborhood) . This isn't the valet key...I don't think Now I'm just paranoid someone will find my keys since my car's sitting outside my garage in the driveway all night.

I think you can open the car with spare key w/o the alarm going off. If you pull the lock or use the lock switch, that will be another story.

I'm positive you can unlock the door with the key and open it without setting off the alarm. Otherwise you'd be screwed when the batteries in the FOB go out.

That's what i'd like to know...

Hey did I mention I might be finding...err..getting a black cl with air bags

Sorry to hear about your keys man..but yeah the keys should just unlock and turn the factory alarm off because off the chip. All the keys should do it..at least that's how it is for me.

You guys were right. It didn't set off the alarm. I'm really bothered knowing that there's a set of my keys floating around though.

I think we get sooo used to the idea of Keyless Entry
that we forget the good old turn-the-key routine also works fine
anyday.

I think it's something lame like Finger Operated Buttons, or something like that.

No, actually it's a real word, way before it meant Fresh Off the Boat:

fob1 Pronunciation Key (fb)
n.
A small pocket at the front waistline of a man's trousers or in the front of a vest, used especially to hold a watch.

A short chain or ribbon attached to a pocket watch and worn hanging in front of the vest or waist.
An ornament or seal attached to such a chain or ribbon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Probably of Germanic origin.]

It's the fob on your keyring.

In terms for shipping isn't it "free on board"???

call roadside assistance, they'll know what to do. maybe you can lie and have them tow it to your dealer who can then reprogram the new fob under warranty. yeah right, that might work.
