Blown 5 A/T vs. Chipped S60R

Yesterday at the bar while watching the games, a buddy of mine was asking how my car was and this guy next to him overheard and asked what I drive. Turns out he has a chipped Volvo S60R, asks me if I can drive a stick, and we head out to give it a test spin. I couldn't really tell which would be faster... especially since I had to shift barefoot (which was better than the open-heel sandal). Regardless, very smooth ride... 3 suspension settings - the "comfort" one was a dream compared to the lowered CL.

So we stop back for my car and head out to I295 which was completely dead because everyone was at the stadium. We start from 50, 3 honks, and it's on. I pulled for a split second until I had to shift to 3rd, and from there he slowly walked me to 120ish. Apparently 4th gear is VERY strong in that car, and he didn't even have to use it that much. I had waited after the 3rd honk until I saw him hit it before I did too... but it wouldn't have made enough of a difference... he was still a good 2-3 lengths by 120. by a volvo

How much do those chips add anyway? he said 50ish and that's without changing anything on the exhuast... more if that's modded.

Sorry I didn't get your message before you took the death I was gonna call back but it was midnight before I checked my phone.

If he was stock you would have taken him. 300hp at the crank, plus a inefficient AWD drivetrain should have made for a good race.

If you see him again tell him i'll race him in a few weeks. 50-110 MPH.

HBP + b-pipe+exhaust will probably make 30 more whp than u have now.

Actually, the haldex system that the Volvo uses is one of the more efficient AWD systems if you are racing from a roll. It's basically a FWD car unless the front wheels lose traction. It still suffers the weight penalty of having a center and rear differential, but as far as drivetrain loss goes, it's probably better than most other AWD systems.

And as far as a chip goes, it probably does add 50 hp and even more tq. If you like the styling of that car, it's a great choice for all around practicality and performance at a good price. Quite a sleeper especially as a wagon.

wow...88 mph is really low for 300 hp. Sounds like something was wrong with his car. He should be at least 96 mph.

Car and Driver ran a 14.0 @ 101mph with the S60R in stock trim. Any car that can run trap >100mph with a 14+ second ET typically has some serious highway prowess.

Good death against that chipped one derelict.
