blew my engine @ 69,000 kms!!!

Stopped my car on the HWY after a clunk clunk from the engine bay.Got it towed to my dealership. They said its is the belt tensioner which later turned out to be scored pistons. They wanted to replace parts only but I insisted on a new Engine..Got it back after 2 weeks..The car seems to stall under 40 for few seconds and does not accelarate as it should..
Will go and get it checked out but thinking of complaining to Honda Canada(a nice letter)!!

Any other sugestions..BTW tranny was replaced @52,000 kms..

Hum, I thought there was A TSB on a potential Belt Tensioner problem that would cause exactly what you noted. I think I read it out on Acur.com under TSBs.

Yeah I got my car checked for the tensioner. This was a recall and it sounds like you didn't get it checked and that may have been what caused the engine to blow!

How in the world did you get scored pistons? Were you racing this car all the time? What else could contribute to scored pistons?

Re: Re: blew my engine @ 69,000 kms!!!

I only had the car for 8 months,so I'm not sure abt how it was driven by the previous owner. But this car was never raced or stretched...I think the dealership didn't set the timing right and when they turned on the engine,it scored the pistons..Can't prove shit though..

I hope you're joking. I have never used synthetic and have never had an issue with an engine even burning oil. Are you saying that not using Mobil 1 will contribute to an engine blowing?

Think he was referring to Synthetic sicne the pistons were Scored, but I could be wrong.

facts about engine failure.

In regards to your disappointment of the work done to your car, first realize the reason your vehicle made the"clunk, clunk" sound was that you had no oil in your engine. At highway speeds when vtec wants to kick in, oil is needed for it to perform, if insufficent oil is in the crankcase, vtec won't work and the vehicle may not perform. The reason you had no or little oil in your vehicle was that the rear main seal was leaking. Over the period of time between oil changes, if it wasn't noticed, low oil will cause engine failure.
If you believe that your vehicle is not performing up to factory standards return to the repair facility to have your concerns looked after.

Your T-belt tensioner was not part of the recall. It was noticed during engine replacement that the part was leaking and that it should be replaced.
