Bike rack for the CL?

I know it's been posted before but a search didn't yield anything.

Thule or Yakima? Part #s and prices would be greatly appreciated.

just go to www.yakima.com and run the rack fitment. plug in your car make/model/year, and it will give you options for the rack itself, and for the accessories (bike mount, ski/snowboard, kayak, etc.)

man you SD folks are sure lazy.:P

Yakima, you'll need (I ASSume you have a CL-S):
1 set of Q Towers - Part #8000105

2 sets of Q92 Clips - Part #8000692

1 48" CrossBar - Part #8000408 (you could also get the stretch kit, but this will cost more)

Bike mounts, there are at least 10 to choose from, can't help you there. I have the CopperHead fork mount, one of the cheaper ones, and runs $70-80.

Not going to help out with Thule...gotta stick with what I know and like.

I recommend looking on eBay and picking everything up used. No reason to buy retail when you can get good condition items for more than half off the retail price. Good luck!

naw...there's a rubber/urethane pad that fits between the Q tower and the car. it's also the pad that provides the final friction and holding power when the tower is clamped down. the only way the rack will scratch the car is if it is installed incorrectly, or if you scratch it while putting it on or taking it off. all these are rare, and you would have to be complete jackass to pull off something like that.

I've used a Yak rack on my Mustang for several years and have had no problems with it. The bike is always rock solid up there, even with some crazy driving.

The one thing that I don't like about it is that the bars rust pretty badly on the insides (and on the outside if the plastic gets cut). Mine are rusted so much that the end caps barely stay on anymore. I had to use silicone glue to keep em on. For that reason, I'd look at getting a Thule system next time since their bars are galvanized inside and out.

Maybe Yakima has fixed the problem is now galvanizing their bars- I'd call them to verify that before I'd buy them again though.

hey... I've got a hitch for the CL for sale. It's a simple bolt on class I hitch. $75 shipped for the hitch. Then get this rack from performancebike for $79 and you'll have an excellent system. When not in use, the rack fits nicely in the trunk.

Mike, I have a Yakima all setup to fit the 2nd gen CL. 4 Q towers, 4 Q92 clips, two 48" crossbars, one copperhead fork-mount bike rack, and six locks (4 on the towers, one on the rack, 1 extra). I don't ride like I used to so its just hanging in the garage right now. I'm in OC. Let me know if you're interested. We could meet half way and I'll even help you install it.

I have no clue what kind I have, but mind sits on the trunk quite nicely and holds up to two bikes. I can look to get the name off of it if it is something you'd be interested in looking into.

The stuff I have cost about $300 new in May 2001. Its in excellent shape (not that that suff really wears out) and has probably spent more time in storage than on the car at this point. Make me an off.

I also have a Sport Frame Hitch and Performance Hitch Mount Rack. I like it because I have a garage and cannot pull into the garage with the bikes on the roof. The rack is also much easier to install and remove. It never comes close to touching or scratching the car. I highly recommend this route if you are only looking for bike transportation. The benefit to the roof system is that you can also get carriers for skis, kayaks, etc.

I just checked the Yakima site and it doesn't look like it. The car's probably too short. I'd think you could do it with a stretch kit, but they didn't list the surfboard carrier for your car.

at one point, I was going to buy a windsurfer so I set the rack up to carry one (never did get one though). I bought a piece of foam pipe insulator, cut it then put it on the rack for cushions to carry the board. It's a very short span but as long as the board is upside down and is strapped on *very* tightly, I don't think there would've been a problem. This same type of setup could be used on the CL. Here's mine:

If you look at this link:

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...5&pagenumber=3

the last car has the Thule rack on it...but I had the old fairing on there so the rack feet are positioned a little more to the front.

Thule has an awesome rack, but the only thing I don't like about the look is the fact that the rack sits flat (horizontal). The Yakima will at least have a raked look.
