Beaters can be a real BIOTCH.

So after spending 1500 in repairs on my integra not one year after i bought it used (sold it a month ago), my new beater, a 1999 volvo s80 is in the shop for what i figured would be minor repairs. Turns out i need 800$ in work done; new rotors, pads, etc etc etc. They wanted 180$ to fix a side airbag curtain cover that was coming off!! I told em to go f' themselves on that one though. I'll just glue the fucker on myself.

Since I bought this car from my dad, he offered to pay for this, but i declined.

I LOVE my Z but damn the fact that the thing doesn't work in the winter weather is a real pain. Definitley an argument for having only one front/four wheel drive car if you live in the northeast...either that or buy a new civic as a second car...used cars suck.

I know the feeling. My winter unit (95 Trooper) just cost me $385. On my way to work the "Check Engine" light came on. Turned out to be distributor wires, new belts and fuel filter!! I suppose this is just major maintenance stuff. I can't imagine giving up my winter unit with the snow and shit we get in New England!!

Why would you have the dealer install rotors and pads?

Buy aftermarket and install them yourself. Its not hard.

had a 91 stanza with 166k miles i bought from zapata for 500$ ...sold it later for 500$ to buy shawns's 91 integra which turned out to be junk...in retrospect i should have kept the stanza. it was rock solid reliable. 800$ would have bought that thing a new motor...i guess i just wanted to drive something nicer...but if you're gonna play, you gotta pay i guess...

it sickens me to think how much i've spent on cars this past year. it's unreal. :shakehd:

i know you're kidding but my dad is literally a saint. he would have given me the car for free. i'm always the one who demands to pay for things he tries to give me. just don't feel right accepting things from him because he's done so much for me already...can't take the guilt ya know?

yeah basic until they cost 500$ for two lousy rotors and pads. i have no idea how to install rotors and i have almost no free time lately otherwise i'd do it myself.

No one said you had to go to the dealer to get the pads and rotors.

Get them from somewhere else online and go to a small mom and pop shop and hav them install it for cheap.

I would never go back to the dealer once my warrenty is up.

My beater/daily driver is 250,000 miles on orginal drivetrain.(motor, tranny) it's a 94 Honda Accord EX. my family bought it new. I don't plan on getting rid of anytime soon. I graduate from college in about 1.5 year. even after i get out It will probably be 2-3 years after that before i get a "new ride" then i'm gonna get something fly. like a Benz,BMW,JAG ,
If the accord still going I'm gonna put a bumper sticker on it my other car is a (insert nice car brand here)

You know what would make a good beater? An Acura Legend '91-'95. They're GREAT cars. I had one that ran to 255K miles without any troubles. Some lady nailed it in the side and so it was totalled out but if it weren't for that I'd still be driving it.

I drive my Z up in Danbury CT every day, which gets a LOT more snow than NYC or PA. The Blizzak's I have do WONDERS to the Z. I have an Accord that I use sometimes because I thought the Z would suck in the snow, but boy was I wrong.

I have a sand bag I put in the back when it's really bad out to put more weight over the wheels. I've never gotten stuck (yet). The only downside to the Z is that it's fairly low, so you can't drive it when it's 6+ inches outside, but how often does that happen? It's usually plowed at least lower than 6 inches.

I paid $1100 for the Blizzak's and rims (easy removal) and it was the best investment I made in the car yet. I'd recommend that for next winter.

Honda's are the best beaters... we have a 95 Civic that we are going to use until next year... I have done all the maintenance on it - cost me < $500:

Timing Belt, Water Pump, Spark Plugs, Distributor Cap/Rotor, Plugs, Plug wires, Radiator Hoses, Radiator itself, Brakes, Battery and all oils.

It should run for another 100K miles... oh yeah, it runs on 1995 GS-R wheels <--- IMO, the best factory wheels ever made by Honda!
