Beat by a Lude

Almost every morning on my way to work, I run into the same late model Prelude, and we ususally get to have some fun on the empty highway. On the highway, I can run on him all day. But this morning, we got stopped at a light. Light turns green and he got a small jump and pulled right through 2nd. In 3rd, I gained some back, but he still beat me. He's got exhaust (looks like Comptech) and intake (can't miss the sound), but I wonder what else he's got under hood. The Ludes are nice, but I hate losing to one!

The Prelude probably had a supercharger.

I have no idea!!! I'm not happy about it. I've got to hunt him down and see what he's got under the hood. My engine temp was cold (just running for 5 or 10 min on a 25 degree morning), so I'm sure this didn't help. I definately don't plan on making a habit out running WOT on a cold engine...can't be good

How much faster is the auto CL-S over a 5G Prelude 5sp?

From what I've seen at the track, they're relatively even performancewise (provided the Lude driver can drive).

I raced my homeboy's 97 5-speed Prelude several times. He have only intake and header. I beat him 5/10 and he also beat me 5/10. Therefore, i am guessing his car runs like mine, and probably with a better driver, his prelude could win me.

I don't know how Haus lose to that prelude (must me heavily soup up).

You guys are funny, do you think that the cl-s is like god or something, its NOT a fast car, the prelude is just as fast as our cars, you put intake and exhaust and it can be faster than a stock cl-s, sh*t it can beat a fully modded cl-s on the street, anything can happen on the streets.

no the CL-S is slow, there's no denying that...but anyway , i think a prelude I/E and a stock cl is gonna come down to the driver from a stop/with the advantage to a prelude if the driver can launch

a sh prelude runs stock between 15.2 and 15.6
the older Si's were only 10 hp less
a cl-s runs 14.8-15.2 there are guys that have run lower just like the preludes. every manufactor has the monday freak car.

add i/e to the prelude he'll now run 14.6-14.8 cl terriorty
add headers the stock cl will see tail lights.

my cousin has a manaul 2000 with i/e and headers and i still walk on him everytime.

I agree with the last two post, but i just dont understand why would people say, well it must of been supercharged, like the cl-s cant lose to a prelude, the cars are so close in speed it come down to the driver.

An just for reference the SH preludes are a tad slower than the regular preludes.

i thought the SH was just suspension and handling upgrades...what makes that a "tad" slower

The SH pakage is just handling and suspension but it adds more weight to the car, maybe not a significant amount, but weight is still weight.

As I already posted I raced my best friends 98 prelude 5spd with i/h/e a few weeks ago. Now, we never did catch a light, we both had the heat on (it was cold, forgot to turn it off), and we both had a passenger with us. We both dropped second at about 35-40. All the way through second it was dead even. As soon as my stock CL-S hit third i got almost a car length when we stopped at about 100. Ive seen his prelude smoke many a V8 and I know he can drive, there wasn't much skill involved in going from 40 so that took the driver effect out of it...and he hits the 2-3 shift as well as he does the 1-2 shift. I'll being seeing him on Saturday in Tampa, and I know he'll have no problems going out and finding a light with me. I'll let you know the outcome.

No, i do not think the CL-S is god and i also do not think prelude would be either. It's just that i have an Av6 and CL-S should be faster than my ride. Have you ever raced a prelude before? I have raced it many times and the outcome was very close. That is why i think stock CL-S with stock 5-speed prelude would be a close one, depending on the prelude driver.

the differance between the cars is :

2001
Exterior Dimensions Coupe Type SH
Curb Weight - Manual (lb.) 2954 3042
2.2L 195 hp I4 2.2L 200 hp I4

the type sh gains 88 pounds but adds the 5 hp.

making the coupe at 15.32
the sh at 15.34

not much differance between the two models

the 1998 models were a bit lighter making them a little quicker at 15.2

Yes i have raced preludes before, my roomate has one with I/H/E, i haven't raced one with my cl-s but with my celica we were basically dead even, it all depended on who got the jump. At the track i have gotten identical times with my two cars so i know the cl-s and prelude is a drivers race. The other night i rode in my roomates car, its been a while, and it felt pretty quick, handled better than my car too, but he has suspension mods and better tires and sway bars.

I have beaten many Preludes, including type-SH ones.

They are quick though. Last type-SH I raced which was lightly mod'd I took 5-6 cars on it.

H/I smaller tires on my ride.
