Bad News about PAA...

I don't want to spread any rumors...I'm just relaying the message from niz181's post.

i was at paa yesterday getting my springs installed and i asked the service guy about the show. He told me that they might not have it because for the past two years they spent $11,000 in food and giveaways each year and the owner was upset. So we will have to wait and see! I'm not going there for the food .
So it's starting to look grim that PAA will ever happen this year. I'm not sure how they spent $11000 per event. The BBQ was very extravagant, but to feed 300+ people at say $5/head that's like a grand and a half. An additional thousand in prizes (which is a shit load...and I'm not even sure they gave out that much) Not chump change, but also not $11000. Maybe I'm missing some logistics here.

Anyway, folks near PAA, please confirm this if possible. If this is true, I don't see why we couldn't have a gigantic summer meet somewhere. Do like a CL/TL/AccordV6 potluck or BBQ. People on other Honda/Acura forums have done it in the past (ie: Type-R Expo that's coming up) bet we can do it too.

I suggest maybe the weekend of the Carlisle Compact Custom car show. It's sometime in May...shit load of other imports will be there. I'm sure we can rent a camp ground in the outskirts of Carlisle (considering there isn't much else in that area).

Other suggestions are welcomed...

Well if that’s true, I think it’s a little selfish of the owner.
Lots of us travel there from OUT OF STATE to get work done.
The MODS that just the people on this board alone have done there easily pays the 11grand bill, not to mention all the free advertising they get.
And it’s all a TAX write-off for them.

And if it REALLY comes down to money, I know I for one would have no problem chipping in 5-10 bucks for a meal ticket to help offset the costs.

As for the give-aways: The Zaino, Sprint Phones and other items were donated by the respective companies.
I was under the impression the Comptech was footing the bill for the other parts and PAA was just eating the labor.

I hope we’re not jumping to pessimistic conclusions here and they decide to go through with it.

I'm with shawn in that I'd be more than willing to contribute 5-10 bucks. I hope they still decide to have it because the definitely do a good job organizing it.

You really can't blame the owner for this. He is a businessman. He is in business to make a profit. Obviously he is not getting the return on his investment. Some one should contact Wayne and suggest that we come up with 5-10 dollars each to reduce their expenditure. Maybe that will work before their decision is made.

I think $5-$10 per car would be fair and help cover costs.

I also agree with Shawn that they have gotten a TON of business from this board both from sales and service, so something doesn't sound right.

Personally I'm going to wait until I hear something from Wayne or Jens before I start jumping to conclusions.

i'd pay as much as $20 if that covered most of the day hangin out, a burger & dog, and good company!!!

this is once a year tradition...official or not, we SHOULD have a PAA meet...i don't mind bringing meat, accessories, desert, whatever, cuz for something fun like this, i wouldn't mind in the least

and based on how far people r willing to travel, that ALONE says alot for how much of a bond we, as a board, have for each other...everyone out west and south r also with us in spirit

i REALLY hope we continue to make this an annual tradition

Don't forget sales impact and extra staffing to help the event along. The first year this was held, it was held on a saturday and hurt sales.

Park Ave Acura held an event 2 years in a row for us and i think 'IT"S SELFISH' to expect them to carry this every year thereon. I also think it's selfish for members to hold 'sales influence' captive to justifying the event. You go to PAA for the excellent service Shawn, not just the price.

Unless you guys have been living under a rock the economy sucks right now, and every company I work for and work with has cut back on the extras, why should they be any different?

I've met the owner of PAA and he thought the event was great, I know the whole crew there and I'm sure they are gunning for one. I refuse to let this board turn like a pack of wolves on them, if that's the sentiment, I sure as shit don't want to hang out w/ any one of you that feel that way.

Worse comes to worse we hold an event and invite the staff of PAA to come join us.

I doubt that is what this is turning into... We all have nothing but nice things to say about PAA...

I agree with you 100%, so lets start researching it and find a place... Someone go over to PAA and SPEAK WITH THE OWNER AND GET A YES OR NO ANSWER so we can get the show on the road and do this.

Re: Bad News about PAA...

That number might not be too far off. Consider the following:

1. BBQ - that alone was probably $3-4K. Remember, *you* could probably put on a BBQ for $5 a head, but since that was catered the catering company has to make money as well. It would not be uncommon for a company to charge PAA $10 (or more) per person for the BBQ.

2. Giveaways - yes many of the door prizes were donated by members/companies (thanks again for the Mothers kit, Smitty ) but don't forget just about everyone there got a bag of Acura goodies upon arrival and registration. Sure it's all promo stuff they normally give away, but it still costs $$$$.

3. Labor - this is the big one I think. There were a *lot* of PAA employees there for the event. The dealership had to pay every one of them a full days' pay (at least) and if some of them are full-time employees they may have had to pay them overtime since it was on a weekend and not a regular work day. Those employees had to move every single car off the lot into a back lot before we got there and then move them back at the end of the night. They had to staff the building.

4. Clean up - I'm sure they also had to have a cleaning crew come in afterwards and clean up the bathrooms, showroom, parking lot, etc.

5. Utilities - gotta pay to keep the place open and cool in the summer. Water for the facilities, electricity etc. It's all small amounts but it adds up.

Yes, the dealer probably includes this event in his/her advertising budget for the year but like eclipse23 pointed out, the economy is in the crapper and companies are looking to cut corners wherever they can. I think it was wonderful for PAA to put on the event free of charge for the last two years and I hope they do it again. But I'd also be willing to pay $5-10 to offset the cost of putting on such a great event. And I will be there again this year....

I probably won't make it this year if they have one. But I'm always willing to help out anyway.

I will donate 2 Sprint phones again (thanks for reminding me).

So you'd better be there cause they will be 2 very nice ones.

You got my $20 and possibly more. I spend $35 to go down a drag for 5 runs with no food. Here we have a barbeque and drinks and possibly some a bikini contest with me as a self appointed judge

In all serious I think PAA had to hit the brakes it was getting to big when they had a cop on standby.WTF Not only that but the girl fainting on the lot didn't help much for the possiblity of a fight or scuffle.. You never know and yes it will be on their driveway making them responsible.

Lets rent a lot and invite PAA and make them only pay for the contest like Zaino off the audio video contest which I want to see Slytls go against AStroboy or the hottest wheels good thing Mantis is not coming

Its all in good fun and if we have the same weather as last year Im double down.

I also would pay for myself to help offset the cost of the event.
I said that same exact thing last year when I got there.
They had everything for us all the food&drinks also free gifts like T-shirts & caps ect. I would like to see this event happen again this year. But if its the money thing & that amount is correct for each event. I look at it this way how many people have purchased a car from that dealership & how many of you guys have got mods done by that dealership. Many have gone to them by word of mouth & some have traveled a great distance for them to do this work. They had many TL/CL cars there last year & even a bunch of RSX owners came. So if only one person purchased a new car there because of this event or the many that have got mods done there because of this event. It might be well worth it to the owners to do it again. The RSX was new last year just think how many of them would show this year. If only one person got there car from them because of this great event they have made money.

So how much would you guys be willing to contribute if I put something together in MY neck of the woods?

I know someone who owns a banquet hall and there’s a HUGE grass parking lot out front for hundreds of cars.
I know the location isn’t ideal for many of you, but this place has easy access off Interstate 78 in the Bethlehem/Allentown area.
This is about 10-miles from the PA/NJ border.
