Bad news: 6 speed tranny = toast! Good news is...
Just like the title says, my CLS6 speed tranny is done.
I drained the oil and there were a ton of shavings
As well as a nice piece of a bearing, some syncro's, a FEW chipped teeth from the gears -> all verified by a Honda Mechanic.
I tried taking pics but you cannot see anything in them, the oil covers everything up.
Gear to blame is second gear... LOL just like in the autotragic glass tranny which then contaminated everything else and the small pieces got into the other gears and well first is done too as well as reverse. Oh and at a stand still with the clutch engaged, it knocks like a card in a bicycle wheel... You know what I mean. What all of us did when we were young to make it sound "cool" when we were riding out bikes...
I'll be buying a totaled CLS6 to swap the tranny's so I can still drive her since I love the car so much. However, I think that I MIGHT be putting her up for sale soon after IF i dont decide to build a 3.5 out of what will be my spare motor...
So, when we drop the tranny and put the replacement in, we will rip apart the old and see exactly what happened. should prove rather interesting.
As for the good news, I think I'll be stepping away from the CL world and stepping into the NSX world... Not that I hate you guys, but the NSX, well it speaks for itself!

Beating? not really. But I consider beating hard quick shifts and 0-60 test every stop light. I can say that I drove it spirit-fully. Got into the high revs, but NEVER had any hard shifts. Always made sure that it was in gear before releasing the clutch.
Car has just over 100,000 miles.
Unfortunate, however, I'm excited LOL. I want to get that other CLS and part it.
I did find out though, that second and third are the 2 gears in almost any transmission that are the most worn. People always slam into second and same into third. The catch about third is that people pop the clutch before the gear is fully in and thus this creates the stress on third.

Fuzzy, that problem that I had sometime ago with that grinding was not the tranny like I thought. It was actually the AC compressor pulley grinding into the power steering return line.
This is a rare case. But then again, anyones tranny can go bad..

I think his first one went out when he tried taking off in second gear from a light under light load or soething along those lines, other issues were over filling of the tranny possibly.
Just rev match your downshifts and try to ease the job of those soft brass synchros as much as possible hence why i use GM FM fluid, its advertised for its brass conditioners

Shit happens. Driving habits HEAVILY influence longevity of the tranny and its parts.

Hey artbran... How hard was it to drain your tranny oil? Could you give me a DIY writeup or something, because when i sometimes accelerate fast from 1st-2nd-3rd i hear like this little metal noise coming from somewhere, like a heat shield is rattling or something... Maybe its time for me to change my tranny oil?

Mine was rebuilt twice but once it should have had the Syncromesh. The 2-3 syncros just wore out for some crazy reason. I drove spiritedly but never ragged the car. The second time was because the dealer was over filling the trans way to much every tiem at the dealer and this led to a input shaft seal failure which got costly. I had them put in new 1234 gears and syncros at that time with a new clutch. I run GM FM in her now and have not had a single problem. It shifts better than it did when new. Jim

Yeah, I'm actually going to have the new tranny flushed it at all possible and I'll pour in either the new Honda stuff or syncromesh.
BTW, changed my mind about the NSX... On the hunt for a yellow Supra...

Do your self a huge favor and to not bother with the new Honda stuff. It does nothing in comparison to the GM syncromesh FM stuff. A fluid flush/change is a joke on the 6mt and there is no reason for you not to do it.

I thought it was for the third gear in the SI's, Tl's, RSX's and so on with the 6mt and how it didnt want to go in and would pop out...
I'll look into the TSB
Link anyone? I might be able to get this pushed through since i know the service manager at Honda now and as it turns out he is a long "lost" friend...
