Is this bad. My Miles on Full Tank.
Is this bad. My Miles on Full Tank.
I feel i'm not getting good gas mileage at all. What might be the reason.
I fill up my tank which is 17 gallons. The light comes on I go to the gas station and usually still have like 2.5 gallons left which means I put in about 14.5 gallons everytime I fill up. I have matched up my receipts. Now usually I beat the shit out of the car so I get 190-210 miles per 14.5 gallons (About 14 MPG) But I tried just to drive normal for a week and still only got 255 miles for 14.5 gallons (about 17 MPG.) Is this abnormal, any suggestions?
Still better than my Jeep, I have a 5.9 GC and the way I used to drive that I would get about 7-8 MPG hahah that sucked.

Well yeah but that is when I only get 200 miles a full tank. My example of I tried driving normal meant for 250 miles which was hard I really never revved the car and I still only got 17 MPG. I never went above 3500 rpms for that time. Now what can that be to still get shitty MPG. I'll do another test if y'all think I should.

Have been bugged by 16mpg on my CLS before and was told not to worry about that till I hit between 9000 and 10000 on the odometer.
I'm now at 4900 and getting 19 or 20mpg sometimes. Can't wait to see what happens.

2250 miles on my car so far. I'm getting anywhere from 19-23.5mpg. I'm not bang'n SS much anymore, usually leave it in D4. Driving mello for the most part, back and forth to work (city/hwy combined.) Has anyone else noticed that with Comptech exhaust, using D5 is about useless!? It really dogs the hell out of the engine. I don't see a need for D5 anymore, unless a major roadtrip comes up. Just my observation....

The mileage in my CL-S is a bit low as well. My driving consists of completely street driving most of the work week, where I spend about an hour in traffic (stop and go, no freeway, just streets). I get about 20-21mpg with this setup.
On weekends, I get much better (close to 30) mileage due to uncongested freeway driving. When I went to Las Vegas (from SoCal), at 75mph, I went 289 miles on about half of the tank. Easily, I could have gone nearly 600 miles from the entire tank.

yah..i got pretty good mpg too...is it because u press the gas pedal hard everytime u start??or u have too many stop and go traffic in your living and working areas

Just recently returned from a vacation trip to hilton Head, SC. On 1 long stretch of road posted at 70mph I did 120 for about 5 minutes til the wifes nagging forced me to drop down to 80. On that tank of gas I was shocked to get 30mpg. On the trip home on that same stretch of hiway hekd to 75 and got 32mpg. Nprmally on LI I get 22-25 mpg. I hace 6500 miles on the car. Al

Hit a freeway (without congestion) and drive about 100-200 miles at 70-80 MPH (or less). Stay off the gas and make sure that the road is relatively level (don't try a climb up some mountain and expect things to average out since you're coming back down the mountain.
1. Go to good gas station and choose a known pump (you will want to go back to this very same pump)!!!
2. Let the pump nozzle do the click-off for you -- don't top it off yourself.
3. Set odometer to zero and get to the nice stretch of freeway or highway that will allow you to maintain a steady speed.
4. Drive easy at 65-80 MPH (whatever)...
5. Don't play speed racer
6. Run about 1-4 hours.
7. Return to the same exact pump and let it click off.
8. Check the receipt from the pump and see how many gallons you used to get the pump to "click-off" again on the refill (at this very same pump and nozzle). Check your odometer reading, calc your MPG.
I got about 31 MPG doing a semi-sedate run and used this exact technique. The idea is to not sit in city stop-and-go traffic in this test. However, it is best to use the same exact pump and nozzle!!!
If you are doing your short runs and the car is in stop-and-go traffic and also warming up, you will not get the best mileage.
Heck, I get better mileage in my CLS than my wife's 2.5L '95 Altima when driving to her work place (there is nothing but stop signs, traffic, and stop lights). I can get 17 MPG driving in that cycle due to all of the time stuck at lights and in traffic AND her mileage is worse!
Try the "easy cruise" as I prescribed above, and if you don't get some pretty good mileage, you might want to change gas or see the dealer
BTW -- I can get some really low MPG figures if I put my foot in it and drive around town.
Do you start and stop the car much? I have noticed a real drain on the gas each time I start it. You also might want to check the fuel filter. Possible it could have something partially blocking it.
