AWD to RWD Possible?

My question is with AWD is it possible to intall an aftermarket tansmission box (<-whats the actual name if it called) that would alow onwers to switch from 4x4 to RWD, or is that only exclusive to 4x4 trucks? Now if it isn't posible to install such a thing than is it possible to disconect the front wheels and be RWD w/o the computer not accept such a thing?

Actually you can, in some applications, just remove the front prop shaft. I snapped mine in my old Typhoon and had to drive around in RWD mode for two weeks. That was fun and scary at the same time.

then why doesn't jag turn the fwd made to awd x-type to rwd?

EDIT: what i wrote above makes no sense. sorry... What I am trying to say is the X-Type was originally FWD, but it was made AWD. Now that it is AWD, couldn't they convert it to RWD?

The transfer case is what your talking about. And yes, it is possible you could find one that allows you to switch. Depends on the application... Making it fit might be another issue...

Also depends if the xfer case is built into the tranny... who knows... If so... then your hosed

It depends on how the car is originially designed. The Jag tranny on the X-type is a FWD converted to AWD, by adding a driveshaft and differentials. The way the engine is mounted plays a large part in determining FWD and RWD as well.

Depending on the system you could just by really slippery front tires so that it would be RWD dominant LOL.

But why would you want to?

It's simple, just use R for forward, and D for reverse and you're all set!!

Now if the '04 CLS is made AWD then the engine would not be transversed, correct?
