Auto S/C 1/4 Times

I went to Pacific Raceways last night and got 5 runs in...my first time ever at the track. Needless to say, I'm quite disappointed I didn't get into the 13's. I have a feeling the 19" Axis wheels are holding me back. Traction is also an issue as my trap times are decent. I spun in place through 1st and 2nd on my first run - thus, the 16.5 time.

R/T .890 .408 .394 .461 .666
60' 2.599 2.309 2.381 2.343 2.324
330 7.383 6.219 6.195 6.150 6.265
1/8 10.877 9.312 9.265 9.217 9.425
MPH 71.70 79.43 80.00 80.02 77.84
1000 13.982 11.975 11.915 11.874 12.150
1/4 16.533 14.207 14.136 14.109 14.444
MPH 90.91 102.31 102.86 101.89 99.30

The weather was pretty decent. Humidity around 75% and temp in the mid-70's. The 1/4 strip is fairly new and supposedly still kind of slippery. I need some light-weight wheels and some stickier rubber I think. I have to really feather the throttle in 1st to get moving. Oh well, had alot of fun. I think there are 2 more open days to run this year so I'll try to get back at least one more time.

Just like Mantis said work on those 60 foots cuz the potential is clearly there for high to mid 13's.

For your 1st time ever at the track i'd say you did quite well.

That's nice... with the HBP around 103mph is correct. Nice runs!

What do most people in the CL get for 60'? 2.1's?

Since I've already got an axelback exhaust all I really need is the B-pipe, right?

No, I didn't lower the pressure. The 35 series tires scare me. I can just picture driving home on a bent wheel. I also didn't do any burnouts to warm them up. In fact, for the first run, I actually drove straight through the water line and lined up w/ wet tires. I guess that's why I had no traction and got the 16.5. I went around the water on the rest of the runs...ya learn quickly.

After running at the track I have new found respect for your 13.2 time. How the hell did you get traction w/ all those horsies going to the front wheels?

i had to learn not to go WOT until i had traction, otherwise it just vaporizes the tires. my system won't spray until i'm WOT.

my best mph is 105.7

maybe you should put the stockers on the front the next time you go. and air them down to 23 psi or so.

a 2.2 60' will put you in the 13's.

I think I will. My stockers have some pretty good SO3's on them (<8k miles). Definitely stickier than the Spec-2's.

you should be running faster even with that mph. check the elevation on the track. i ran a 14.26 at 2700 ft. above, with almost the same 60 ft. if the track has lots of elevation, those times are actually something to be very proud of!

I don't think the track is very high, but I'll check into it. There were 2 SRT-4's, 2 WRX's, and a STI running as well. They all ran low-mid 14's...maybe we just all suck at driving. A nicely modded 240z ran mid-13's...as did a 'Teg Type-R. Some REAL drag cars and cycles were running in the 9's.

I pretty much agree with everyone else that you should work on the 60" time. Your car seems to be running well given the mph trap speed. I ran a 13.67 with a 2.22 60' and my trap speed was only 102.72

I've convinced myself that it's a combination of the 60' times and also my heavy-ass wheels. I think it is taking them some time to get rollin' once they hook up. I'm gonna put my stock wheels back on and go run at the track to see if that helps. They have SO3's on them too so that should help.

SCC Mag article

The August Sport Compact Car tested a Supercharged CL type-S 6 speed.

It only did the quarter mile in a traction limited 14.2 at 101.7mph. Compared to a previous CL-S 6 speed of 14.5 at 97.9mph (non-supercharged). The before and after dyno was 221/202 (HP/TQ) before and 289/248 after. Biggest improvement was 74.8HP at redline (6900rpm) and 57.7 torque at 6800rpm. It increased 30 ft lbs from 2000-4000rpm, then bumped up instantly 40 ft lbs from 4000-6000 and then instead of torque dropping 30 ft lbs on the stock CL-S from 6000-7000, the supercharged version only drops 10 ftl lbs making it's peak increase near redline.

Cool article. They say the figures don't represent the seat of the pants and everyday feel. The name of the article sums it all up... CRUISE MISSLE!

Those guys must really suck at driving. Alot of stock NA 6-spds on this board get better 1/4 times (at lower MPH of course). I don't understand how my 5AT could trap faster than a 6spd. Maybe weather played a role in the poor 6spd times.

What is a blown LS? Lincoln?

Nice try anyway... you were only a little more than a tenth off in getting into the 13s. But like others have said; lighter wheels, stickier tires and a catback might get you into the upper 13s.
