Unhappy Attempting to Remove Touch up Paint?

Just purchased my CL and the guy who owned it before me went to town with touch up paint. It doesn't even look like the right color match.

Has anyone every tried to remove touch up paint?

I was thinking of trying to be very careful with nail polish remover, goo gone, goof off or something like that.

Maybe try to buff it off...

Tar remover?

I heard a clay bar might help some.

You're probably going to need a stronger solvent then the ones you've suggested. Get some straight acetone, the main ingredient in nail polish remover. You can get at the auto parts store or the hardware store.

The original paint should be cured enough that it should be somewhat resistant to the solvent, though you're still going to have to be very careful with it. Unless you're experienced with working with automotive paint, and it doesn't sound like you are, I'd probably not mess with it. There's a good chance you'll make it worse than it already is.

A clay bar is good for things like overspray dust. It's a mild abrasive agent suspended in a plastic substance. They are used for taking microscopic amounts of foreign material off the surface of the paint (or the clear coat to be more accurate). A clay bar will not cut deep enough to remove the touch up paint.

I still recommend you not try to fix this yourself.
