Anyone using Autozone Duralast Gold brake pads?
Is anyone using Autozone's Duralast Gold brake pads with the stock caliper and rotors? Did you install the brake pads with or without the metal duralast shims?
I bought some and they didn't fit correctly...I had the right part number too..double checked.
They were so thick and fitted tight that it was like I was always braking without the brakes applied. The pads produced so much heat that I couldn't even touch my caliper or even wheel!
I figured I had malfunctioning rotors and re-installed the brake pads again being sure that the calipers were fulling opened. Same thing happened.
So I was freaking out and thought that my calipers or master cylinder/booster had been messed up some how. I put my old brake pads back on they are fine...
Cliff notes:
-Duralast Gold Pads fit too tight and caused excessive heat/wear
-Stock pads work just fine
-I think the culprit could be using the metal shims that come with the duralast pads

yea this is very strange. I've used them on my old nissan maxima and my buddies camaro.
I talked with the guys at autozone for a while and we could only guess that the shims come on them, but aren't necessary for our car?
I got my money back, but just wondering what the problem is and how everyone else with the pads has them setup

i just installed these on my car about a week ago. i did the front and rear with no problems, they are thick but the caliper fitted over them fine when i compressed it. they already had the metal shims connected to them too. so far i have yet to hear a squeak. For the first couple of miles they feel slippery, but once they get broken in they work great.

I bought and installed Duralast Gold pads from Autozone about 3-4 months ago and machined my rotors at the same time. I'm very pleased with the choice and haven't had any problems since. Install was a breeze. I used the duralast metal shims as well, no problems.

hmm I wonder what the problem was? The calipers were compressed all the way. I think I'm gonna use up the rest of the brake pads I have...there is a good amount left, but they squeek bad. I'll save for new rotors and pads

Installed pads on the front a couple days ago. Install was quick with no problems. Also had the shims on them. Feel great and no noise so far. I think there great for 35 bucks with the lifetime replacement warranty.

Some like it some don't. I've had pretty bad experiences with them, and if you were to go with pads from parts stores, I'd prefer Napa.
However autozone does sell Performance Friction pads, (some in stock), and those work really well.
