Anyone know how the doors for the cupholder work?

So when I bought my CL this weekend, I found that the cupholder doors don't function. They're attached, but no spring action or locking. I found a single spring in the bottom of the cupholder, which I assume is part of the assembly. I'm wondering if anyone knows how these work? Is it just one spring? How do I even go about removing it? I've looked around and can't see any bolts to remove or pieces that would slide out.

I answered my own stupid question on how to get the cupholder doors out by removing the burlwood molding, durrr. If anyone knows how these cupholder doors function though, your knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

pull the doors off the center console and look more closely at it, but that spring shound be attached to both doors if IIRC for the spring action (you have to slid the console backwards because the cupholders are hooked on the front area)

and the locking might just be that they are not spring loaded anymore, so maybe doable check that first

I just tried to remove the cupholder doors (the whole unit, not just the doors themselves) and couldn't figure out how to get it out of the console. It seems that it has tabs towards the front of the cupholder assembly, and something towards the rear of the assembly. I'm not sure which way to slide it? Do I need to loosen the shifter surround? That seems like a much bigger job.

center console with the armrest has to slide back (and shifter surround does not need to be touched)
should be two screws inside the bottom storage compartment (under the little carpet thingy if you still got that),
then two screws under the burlwood trim that you have already removed, they are the ones at the very front of the rear section of the console
remove those four screws and the console should slid back, with a little tap backwards (don't pull too far back, the wiring for the power outlet inside the storage compartment needs to be disconnected first, easy to see once console is slid back a little, console will come out of the car now

after all that, remove the 4 screws around the cupholder trim (what the doors are attached to) and that should come right off the console (there may be a clip or two also holding it on, but should come right off with a little tug if there)

this might help a little too, with what you are trying to remove being #6

also the carpet thingy is #18
and disconnecting the power outlet is #1

perfection! I was just pulling on the cupholder lid for a good half hour, and couldn't get it out of there. I'll try removing the two bolts at the bottom of the arm rest and moving them back.

Just to clarify, you don't unscrew the bolts on the sides (next to the seats)? The rear console piece seems to extend almost all the way to where the shifter trim meets the cupholder doors.

you mean the screws on the sides that the seats block you from getting at ??? there should have been 4 screws holding on the rear console to the car, maybe you are missing two of them

but hey at least it is fixed now

so I don't need to remove the screws that the seats make almost impossible to get at? the console will slide by just remove the ones you mentioned earlier?

nope, these two as you got before (this is a 6-speed console but is basically the same way to remove, just that you don't have to pull the e-brake on yours)

plus these two at the front of the console that you see that have no screws in them(same console as above)
