99 was the last year for the 3000GT's....

Parts are hard to find, AWD system is pretty low-tech..active spoilers are expensive to fix if broken, lotsa power but MUCHO weight negates a lot of it..VR4's came with chrome 18"s stock...automatic sucks big time..

well..

I'm putting together a MOD'd 95 3000gt with a friend...

So far we have (stock bottom end)

Heads ported and polished
Upgraded turbos (490 cfms each)
Upgraded injectors
Fuel rail
Stand alone fuel management system
RPS twin carbon disc clutch
lightened flywheel
Carbon fiber drive shafts
UR pulleys
UR cam gears
3.5" exhaust
Turbo timer
boost controller
fuel controller
Spring/Sways/SSR GT1 wheels

Lemme know if you want specfic model/manufacturer info...

Cool car... I have some pics of what we have done so far. Heads are going to the machine shop sometime in the next week. Probably have about 3-4 weeks left working on it after work. If all goes well...

Sounds like a nice setup you've got there. Good luck with the finished product. I was just curious, why did you choose to modify a 3000 GT? That's not always the most popular car to mod. I mean there are lots of other cars out there that would be cheaper to mod...just off the top of my head, maybe a Buick Grand National. The reason why I said the Grand National was b/c my brother-in-law bought one a few months ago for $3800 & put about $900 worth of mods into it & it runs high 12's to low 13's. Those cars are fast as fuck. Just curious as to why you chose the 3000 GT.

The link did not work. The T-Type is more rare than the GN. Same engine & tranny. I searched for a white 87' T-Type, but only less than 7000 were produced. They made a shade over 30 000 GNs in 87'. One of the guys in the local GN club has a GNX... with every possible bolt on, including an Eastern Performance f/m & PT70 turbo.

some people choose to mod cars that aren't popular to mod. anyone (with not even that much money) can mod a supra, GN, Z28, GT, S4, etc. but they've been modded to death. chances are big that two randomly chosen cars of the same type will have the same or similar mods. running 12's is like cake for those cars w/ minor mods; it's almost even considered a standard. it's always nice to see/try something new. it would interest me alot more to see gs430's and cl's run 12's than your everyday neighborhood Z28 or stang.

The 3000GT is a Chrysler / Mitsubishi product - OF COURSE it's going to have a LOT of problems.

Well, actually I didn't choose it's my friends car. He just loves the car. And as someone said, there isn't many of them that are mod'd.

I'm helping because he has taken it to two shops who have done nothing but strip out his heads. Ruin is MAF. Strip out his intake plenum... The list goes on of eveything they have broken. I keep finding more and more stuff they installed incorrectly.

I'm now taking everything apart having the heads reworked (and helicoiled). A valve is sticking (i assume from carbon build up, they had the car WAY overfuled and run it for hours). I only hope it didn't meet with a piston. It was making a nasty knocking noise. I did the best I could to listen with a stethiscope. I'll know on wed when we pull the heads off.

I couldn't let him take it to another shop to get butchered...

Should be around 700hp when complete. LOL, hopefully in the next 4 weeks.

The 3000 VR4 had a serious transmission problem. Many were replaced after the customer bought it. Stay away from it as far as you can.

Ya, I already warned him about this. Most people I know were snapping shafts. We'll see how his car holds out. I'll snap some pics of the car this weekend.

I'm only going to worry about the engine and getting it running correctly.

You should see the nightmare of plumbing...

I have seen it. And yes it is a nightmare of plumbing, but it is a cool ass car!

I can't wait until it's done. It's going to be a pretty fast car!

Gonzo power on a VR4 is a double-edged sword...as soon as you snap a driveshaft you'll wish for a Supra...I would think of strengthening the transmission and related parts before trying to go for max power...hmm a properly tuned 700Hp in ONE month...anyone else think that's a recipe for "dang, it was fast for those few minutes..."

i hate seeing haphazard car build-ups..

LOL, don't hate the car... It has 100% complete carbon fiber shafts/clutches.

The tranny will be done too. The car has about $20k in parts in it now. The tranny will just be the cherry on top

thanx for all of your input, I have *warned* him a few times. And I could not agree with any of you more. He has no problems buying a built tranny. Just going to wait for it to blow up 1st...

cheers
