Another Stupid CL Noise!!!!!!!

I was leaving a parking garage and I was driving by a wall with y window down, I noticed a sound that sounded like someone lightly sharpening a knife. I'll bet this is a new one I think its the brake pads because I only notice it after the car sit for an extended period of time.

I brought my car in for service due to a strange noise I've only heard during the last 2 weeks: Sounds like something sliding an inch and then "bumping" into something. The sound was coming from the right front engine or glove compartment. You could hear it everytime I took a sharp left or right turn. I took everything out of my glove box, and checked in the engine bay and didn't see anything loose.

The service guys took it for a ride and heard the same noise coming from the same area. They couldn't find anything, so they drove it again, this time with one of them using a stethoscope to help find where it was coming from.

The result....

My damn sunglasses moving around in the holder! It's been rainy here last few weeks, so I haven't been wearing them.

I feel like such a dumb ass!!!

I park in a garage everyday, and I've noticed this noise before when I have my sunroof open or windows down. I'm not quite sure what it is though. Please post if you find out...I'm very curious.

Folks, this sounds like the ABS check which happens twice after you start rolling. It is normal.

Gavriil,

I don't think this is the ABS noise. I'm assuming you are talking about when the ABS 'charges'.

This noise definitely sounds like metal scraping against metal. It lasts the entire time I am driving around in a garage (only cause I can hear the echo), not just a few seconds.

Hopefully this clarifies things a little.

I definitely hear the same thing Nicky Pass. I usually ride through with my windows up, but today I made it a point to roll through the garage with them down. It sounds like the brakes are partially engaged, but I'm not sure since I'm not a technician. I will drive through the garage tomorrow morning and listen...if I can remember....I'm usually on sleepdriving on auto pilot early in the morning

I know this is a VERY old thread, but I have this exact same noise coming from my car. Has anybody else had this and figured out what it is/how to fix it?

it's warped brake rotors. the pads are rubbing on the high spot(s) on the rotors.

had the same issue. you can hear it against a wall just coasting and when you brake it gets a little louder.

they had to replace a spring held to the pad with the pads also having about 15% life left as it was. I would get this done immediately cause they told me if that spring broke off, i would have no rear brakes. Everything is fixed now.
