Okay boy oh boy oh boy....this is probably going to be one of my longest posts ever . It's 2 am, prime time for me...so I've decided to sit down and actually do this. First let me say that Gator CL-S has volunteered to go over there...so, heh heh, you guys are more than welcome to bother the CRAP out of him till he does it. He gets a free kit anyway, so he can't complain!

Next up...price. Although I am hesitant to give you guys a solid price without Jeff having given me one...I BELIEVE it will be about $50, and it IS for 2 door sills. Now does this include shipping? I don't know. That's what I'm going to ask tomorrow. Shipping can't be more than $10. So at most we're looking at $60. I think most of you guys can fork over that much

Third, payment. Soopa has been good enough to accept payments via credit card or however you guys want to pay. Then he'll give me the cash, and I will give it to Jeff. Something I want to point out...he's a total nut...you guys should be glad you have him. He was willing to buy the atlanta volunteer a kit with his own cash if Jeff wouldn't give them a free one...that's commitment! That and he's not making any money off this either.

Fourth, designs. If you'll look at the picture of the Inspire sills that Soopa posted in the first thread, that's what we're hoping to achieve. Brushed aluminum sill, with a polished area engraved with whatever logo or writing you guys want on it. They do 50 different finishes...including black chrome (the acura style) among others. And they can engrave whatever you want...you just have to have a group of 10 or so...and some of the finishes may cost a LITTLE more than others...the brushed/polished look is the cheapest and easiest to do. I say we start out with two types, one for the CL-P's and one for the CL-S's...either Acura or Acura CL, and Type S or CL Type S. Then we go from there. Tell me if that sounds good to you guys. And as for stick on vs. screw in...I think they'll have to be screwed into the plastic...which is a very permanent thing. The Inspire sills are stick on, and do quite well...so I suggest that. But screw on can be done for the exact same price. And I'm sure you guys are going to ask this...so about backlighting...again, they're just an aluminum company...but they can do something that will allow you to do backlighting. They can cut the letters out totally...or do what I would prefer, which is do the engraving like you would carve letters into a pumpkin...with a cut all the way through outlining the letter, so the light will shimmer along the outside, then you have to go buy a $10 neon strip to place under the trim...not difficult.

With that all said...I'll go on now to answering the 200 posts or whatever of questions...I do want to stress guys PLEASE vote in the poll if you want these...I do need an accurate count. I'll just answer the Q's I didn't answer above. I may address you guys more than once if you ask a lot of questions (ahem, nabster!) so look through all the replies below for multiple ones. Sorry if soopa already answered you...you get another reply!

Gator CL-S:
They're going to cover up the plastic part...not the metal frame.

amirsafdari:
The red Type S, as I stated earlier, is a DIY thing...they can only do the aluminum and engraving...and as scary as DIY paint it red sounds...it's really easy.

juniorbean:
This has nothing to do with the TL one...whatsoever. Tim has taken the whole process of that over. He hasn't discussed with me anything about CLs...and since his help was for the TLers anyway Adam and I decided to do this here for the CLers.

99CL:
We will take care of you first gen'ers too...though I don't know the difference in size of the sills and whatnot. We may have to get a first gen'er to volunteer to go in too.

ReflexRacing_com:
See what I said above to amirsafdari, but I'm sure I can get blanks for you to have engraved later if that's your wish. Soopa has some weird coloring idea so well...may want to talk to him Soopa you're not talking magic marker or anything eh? Heh heh heh...Crayon!!!

cob3683:
Thanks for the volunteering A tiger eh? Roll TIDE! Ha no I'm joking...you may know a lot of my friends from Vestavia Hills High School...Kavan Eldredge, Leslie McCall, Steven McDaniel...

FDao:
They'll drop ship wherever...Hawaii or Poland! But it just may cost a little more.

lenjiay:
This is the discount...I quoted the price assuming we'd have at least 10 guys. It may go down...I honestly don't know until Jeff tells me...and he doesn't know until he gets a prototype made...which he won't get until Gator CL-S comes in (heh heh again go bother gator! Woohoo!)

nabster:
It's either strong adhesive similar to double stick tape, or screws. Water doesn't actually get on the sills...they're sealed inside the car. I will make sure they use very strong adhesive. Something you guys have to understand...this is not some tape. I can get a few pieces and stick them to soopa and stick him to the ceiling. So don't think tape. Just realize that screws are very permanent...but will be an option...but it shoots your resale value to hell unless you want to replace the trim...or try to sell it with the aluminum pieces. Oh and the manufacturer isn't going anywhere...they've been in business for a decade. Yes you would have holes in the stock sills...that's why I suggest stick on unless you want it permanent. Oh and about the fading finish...it'll only fade if you get the whole thing solid chrome (aka scratches)...with brushed you won't tell the difference.

SundanceCLS:
Actually the screws won't undergo any wear and tear that's visible. They'll either be complete brushed aluminum screws, or chrome...both of which won't rust

Mercury:
They don't do stainless steel...you'd see it cost about 5x as much!

Jayru2:
You have to drill the existing plastic only. I BELIEVE, though I am not sure, that you won't have to drill through the metal underneath. The only way I will know this for sure it to remove the stock sill. I'm hoping however that there is a hole under the stock sills...not a big gaping whole but spaces...if so, then we'll make the sills so that the screw holes intersect there. Good Q though, take your sills off and let us know! Either way, you'll have to predrill the hole so it won't matter.

I actually have the Acura TTF, is it the NSX font? Not sure...but I've attached the font to this post so you can download it and take a look.

.................................................. .

Okay I think that's it guys! Whew. I'll be happy to answer any questions you all have, in the format I did above. If I don't answer your Q, know that it's because it was already answered so either look through that post or previous posts. Big round of applause to soopa for hosting this, and Gator CL-S for volunteering, as well as which ever first gen'er wants to volunteer as well, though we'll take care of first gen'ers later. Oh, and later doesn't mean later in 2050...it means later in the next 2 weeks. Actually...it means later as soon as Gator CL-S comes in so we have the second gens out of the way. If I could ask a favor...please guys don't PM me or email me about questions specific to this thread...usually the questions you ask others have...so it's better for all to post here, and makes me more organized.

Again, the screws vs. tape, either can be done for anyone...these are going to look tight as hell...and
EVERYONE VOTE IN THE POLL!

Cheers,
Austin519

As for coloring: I'm think the anodized look. Its simpler then it looks and it IS a DIY project. But like I said, I wanna try it before I tell anyone to how to fuck up their $50 door dills. lol

Stainless Steel?? HAHA... didnt ya hear what good ol George W. Bush did for steel prices in this country yesterday? Steel is gonna cost as much as titanium. lol

Either way, the Aluminum wont rust. and neither will the chrome. So your set.

as for the engraving... i'm still saying well stick with "ACURA" and "Type-S". Maybe followed by a limited production run of "<font face="Verdana">ACURA-CL.COM</font>"

I'm in no matter what font is used and whether it says Acura or Type-S or whatever.

My preference is for Type-S with the S in script like the logo, but if it is not an option then I am in for whatever they are willing to make for us.

I just looked at the vote and 86 people is pretty dang good. My math may be fuzzy but that is a lot more than ten.

thats neat idea...

i dont think our manufacturer would make indiglo sills direct...

but i could probably have the aluminum cut so that I could integrate the indiglo components myself... maybe i will do that and sell them at a later point... as well as post directions on how to do it yourself and allow you to order a blank sill.

that will be determined after we have the normal sills so we can figure it work.

Here's another idea:

Have it say A C U R A, Then goto the dealer and buy two of the Type S Logo's that every punk likes to steal, and incorperate it within the sill. That would look F-ing FRESH!!!!

Please, My vote is for it to say A C U R A. I think that wouldlook SO DAMM TIGHT in the NSX font. Oh man. DROOOOOOOL!

Soopa, I've got some fresh ideas to make it light up. I am thinking plexiglass between the sill, and the stock plastic sill, then using the neon strip lighting inside and between everything.

Keep us posted, please.

Me, too.

I've already purchased one indiglo logo and trying to decide where to mount it inside the car. I was going to put them similarly on the sills, but I'd rather do the aluminum sills and use the indiglo elsewhere.

For those who don't know, that indiglo Acura strip is very very bright and lights up pretty nicely; very clear and crisp. You wouldn't want it "always on" inside your car at night, it's just too bright (for me).

Not an assumption, you are exactly right. I have one of the logo. On the sills? That might be a bit much. Those things are so bright. If you do this to the old regular or new aluminum sills, you might just feel it's a little rice because these things kinda stand out, being so bright and crisp and all.

There's usually one or two up for sale on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...tem=1810474963

Oh, BTW, I'm in for the sills... Doesn't matter what they say as long as they're not plastic.

Oh, BTW, I'm in for the sills... Doesn't matter what they say as long as they're not plastic.
Yes, that would be one. They come and they go all the time, year round, usually only 1 or 2 bids, should be had for <$25.

Also you don't have to get the ones listed for "Acura CL", any of the Acura models will do (they're all the same).

If you can't find them on eBay, there are websites that sell them directly for a bit higher.

It appears to be some type of plastic or rubber strip. It bends but won't crease. And it's all one piece---on a strip. It IS too corny to put on a license plate, so I'll place the one I have someplace else (that was my original intent anyway). Don't know of anyway to dim them but if you know about electronics and voltage and resistors and capacitors and all, you'll find a way....

I'm in. I'd prefer "Type S", but "ACURA" is fine too. Would they be easy to install? How would we order and pay? Sorry if someone's answered this already. It's just that this post is already 10 pages, and I didn't have much time today. Looking forward to this!
