This was my first true near miss, as I have only been driving for a couple of months. I live off of this pretty secluded road, with a speed limit of 30. You really have to do about 30-35 because its very windy and there are a ton of deer. Anyway, yesterday I had just got home from school, was leaving to go to the store and some kid comes FLYIN around a blind corner at 80-85. He understeers and was gonna sideswipe me, so what does he do? Slams on his brakes. Smoke and tire rubber flying off his car, he starts barrelling towards me, head on now. I take the wheel and steered off into a ditch, expecting to sideswipe a tree, which would be better than ahead on collision with a car going 60. I miss the tree get back on the road and the kid, who is now in the ditch behind me, takes off. I managed a scratched rim and a few surface scratches on the bottom of the passenger door, pretty good considering what could have happened. But shit am I pissed.

Hence the high insurance rates for <25 year old males. I'm a speeder too but I would never go 80 in a 30. Idiot.

Situation like this, I would ask myself..."where is that f*cking donut-eating-pig when you need him? " Of course, he'll be chewing on his donut waiting to pull you over for doing 35 in a 30mph zone....I hate cop writing stupid tickets like this!!

Absolutely. Going 80mph will get you 20mpg at most because of the the higher revs.

I pulled over for a minute and stopped, because I thought for sure he went into the tree behind me, which he may well have, but he took off before I could see. I cop came around a minute later and I start bitching about it. I got the nod and the "we'll step up patrols." Bullshit. BTW, He was an a POS early 90's Olds Ciera. The car couldn't handle the turn or the speed, and when he started to brake he totally lost control. And your right on Ken, idiots like that asshole make me get fucked right in the asshole come time for insurance payments. I'm a young driver too, but I consider myself responsible (for the most part) and would never speed like that guy.

thank god your ok dude! fuck the rims!! i had a chick hit me at 8o in a 35. Luckily i was driving a 85 Caprice Wagon. Her car flew and got wrapped around a tree. I think she scratched the chrome on my bumper!! That was fuckin scary though, i saw her car airborne !!

Idots on the roads... how about this morning a red BMW 3 series old body mabye ...M3... was in a hurry...guess what he was doing ....120-140 in 45 WORK ZONE....

I tired to follow the rabbit for 10-20sec, with V1 help I was crusing at 100-105 and then gave up... when the suckker disappeared like rapped monkey ass...

Isn't that amazing...how fast some people will go in the crowded areas. I admit I drive fast...but not in neighborhoods, not thru the city, not in parking lots or school/work zones...but on the open highway.

And 140 is way fast. I once tried to follow a trooper with his lights on, I let him get 1/2 to 3/4 mile ahead, and this was on the open Kansas highway, I got up to maybe 100-115mph and that cop disappeared...I lost sight of him. Can you say 150ish!

Worse, Rt-3 is on a major 4-year wideneing, It is still 2 lane only !!with no left shoulder... right lane is a merging lane... that red BMW was boxed between the jersy barriers and slow car in front...

The traffic on Sunday morning around 7:00 AM was light ....
