Airbag recall update - November 2014
The Honda airbag recall has been updated again.
Summary:
If you were denied a replacement airbag in the past (my car wasn't included in past recalls) you can now ask for a replacement airbag free of charge.
There were some earlier reports of replacement parts being defective, so check to make sure your car is looked after (even if you had this done under an earlier recall).
Please be sure to check into this as it could save your life!

The fact that several people have died and been injured because of these airbags if you still driving your car I would think you would be concerned no matter how long you've owned it.

Chances they'll actually replace it rather than check and say it doesn't need replacing is minimal.
I would not trust a 14 year old airbag with my safety. Even when my 01 CL was less than 2 years old, I was in a bad accident and the airbags never deployed when they should have. I don't trust them.
I am safer in my CL with no airbags with welded in roll bar, racing buckets, and 4 to 6 point harnesses.

Same here. I made an appointment to have the airbag replaced (passenger side only since I have the RSX airbag in the steering wheel) for my 03 CL. After sitting 10 minutes in the waiting room, the service manager came up & said there is no airbag recall for my car
. So, who is right? Was NHTSA info inaccurate? Who do we believe? The car manufacturer, or the gov't?

Surprised not more posts here, maybe it's on the TL forum. I know it's a slim chance but who wants the chance of flying shrapnel, much less an accident. I called in my vin and Acura dealer told me it needs the recall. First time I called they said just the the inflater, then I called again and the guy seemed unaware of much, and said the whole driver airbag will be replaced.
A little concerned there is no clear info, but I know the issue is swirling between Takata, the govt, and the car manufacturers.
I'm taking it in on Fri.

As of 12/14/14, it looks like Acura added more VINs to the recall. Looks like most, if not all, 2003 CL models are included for the updated air bag inflator.
You can check your VIN at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Divisions

Concerned but not worried.

I decided to call Acura Canada to ask if some VIN's would eventually filter in to the recall. The lady on the phone assured me that all affected VIN's were now in their system, and not to worry. If anything ever were to change in the future, I would be receiving a letter in the mail.
I had the work done about a month ago on my CL, and had them replace the drivers seatbelt under warranty while they were at it.
If anything, I would think the opposite is true. The older your car is, the more I would want to replace the airbags with brand new parts. I would think that the explosives lose potency over time, etc. I think I'd be safer in a car with brand new airbags vs 14 year old airbags, shrapnel issue aside.

see how the frenzy has died down? if this was as serious as you all are making it out to be, then the NHSTA would have forced the issue to cover all the cars regardless.
Truth. The gov investigates this stuff like crazy and if they'd found a reason to, they would have forced them to replace them all.
I just had this recall repair performed today (2003 CL-S 6). They (Acura dealer) had it done in less than 60 minutes.
According to the invoice, they used 0400-S5A-305; INFLATOR COMP. KIT.
This is the procedure they performed:

I've never seen so many Acura people 'fist-bumping' and 'yo-broing' over a 2G S/C'ed CLS6. They were like, 'Bro!, we just don't see them any more'
I got a notice too. Nice to know that my potentially exploding airbag was replaced with a 2nd airbag that may explode. Time to make my appointment to have it swapped again. Too bad my normal shop can't do it, as I need to have the winter tires taken off.
I don't think the issue is to address potential explosion or deployment of an airbag, but more the risk of metal objects fragmenting from the inflator and causing injury to the person the airbag is protecting during a crash?
