Air box modification?

Has anyone modded there CL-S air box and still leave the air filter/KN in?
Would this work instead of having to get the AEM CAI?

This mod seem to work on the Jetta VR6 and it does give a nice intake sound and a 3-4HP gain with the KN filter.

Would this type of mod give any HP gains in our car?

All opinions welcomed. rolleyes:

I am not sure what exactly you're talking about doing to your air box, but I would highly recommend picking up a AEM CAI and focusing that energy in better ways. I think that the CAI is one of most enjoyable mods to get.

Jrock and I did that, and about 5 other of us did that.

I used left my K&N in and just got a dryter hose that hangs down about 2 feet off teh resonator to where the cai filter would sit.

Not as loud as a a true cai but a little louder than stock and noticable performance gain.

I removed the lower resonator box, put in a K&N filter, then ran 3" black flexible abs hose under the bumper fascia for a "ram-air" effect! Search archives for mor details and pic!

Since I didn't want water getting in my intake, I decided to cut the tubing so it's only about 2 feet long and hangs down from the rubber sleeve at the bottom of the airbox. (IOW, it's where the resonator used to be.)

I also have a Comptech drop-in filter (thanks JZ!).

Iam talking about making a round hole or square opening to the bottom portion of the box, so that the air can enter more freely through the bottom of the air box and thru the air filter into the TBody to intake.

Shouldn't this help with the intake responce and more air flow?
